Hi my friends my name is Michael and study at Señor de Sipan university.
I'm an architecture student. I go to the university every day. When I return
home, I go to my bedroom to do my homework. There in the link side is my
desk where I do my work. my desk is very important for me because I can
find all my things. for example, my apple computer I like it because it is big
and thin, and I can draw my graphics, my architecture books where I can
read topics about my career. There are my pencils, pens and my printer to
present my works to my teachers. I also have a comfortable chair where I
spend hours doing my homework.

The glossary is a catalogue of words from the same discipline or a

field of study, which are defined, explained or commented
according to the nature of the text. Glossaries are usually arranged
alphabetically, however there are compendiums of words that can
be arranged by subject or color, according to the classification
previously obtained by the author of the text.
A glossary is an essential tool for organizing the unknown or
unusual terms of any written work. Then we will present the way
to make a complete glossary to give the final and professional
touch to your work.

To know what a glossary is, The Royal Spanish Academy defines glossary as
"catalogue of words from the same discipline, from the same field of study,
etc., defined or commented".

Know the structure of a glossary. As we have said, the glossary is a list of

words, and these are accompanied by the meaning (or meanings) that you give
in the context of your work. The words themselves are called "entries" or
"slogans", and their meaning (if you have more than one) is called
"acceptance".

Generally, you will be asked to make a glossary for monographs, grade thesis,
research projects and other written work. The glossary is located at the end of
the work.

Learn to differentiate a glossary from a dictionary. Because a glossary and a

dictionary are characterized by being a list of words that come with their
meaning on the side, they are often thought to be the same. However, it is not
like this:
A dictionary explains the meaning of all the terms of a given language.
• A glossary explains the meaning of selected terms of a particular topic,
subject or area of knowledge.
• Therefore, the extension of a glossary is much more reduced and specific,
while that of a dictionary is much wider

Be prepared to make your glossary. Before starting to form the body of your
glossary, determine some general previous points. For example, decide if you
are going to make a distinction between adjectives and nouns, if you are going
to add a single meaning or more, if you are going to add the page number
where the words of your glossary appear, if you are going to use

Select certain words. You must select words that are important or whose
meaning is not commonly used. The moment you have to do it depends on
you:
 You can select these words as you create your work and they appear.
This is more practical, because that way you will not overlook any of
them.
• You can select them at the end, once you have finished, when you are
doing the editing task.

glossary. You can leave a space at the end of your notebook to assign it to the
glossary and write your selected words there or you can write them in a
separate Word document (or in the text processor of your choice).
 Write glossary entries in bold. This is done to differentiate them and

Sort the words in alphabetical order. In the same way that a dictionary does,
all the words in the glossary must be arranged in alphabetical order. For
example, in the play One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García
Márquez, the first word of its glossary is bead, followed by supply, then
bumblebee, etc.

Choose the appropriate meaning of the dictionary. In the dictionary you may
find more than one meaning for a certain word. Each of these meanings is
called "meaning". You must think very well and choose exactly the meaning
you used when writing your work.

Words like "garrison" have several meanings, so we reiterate that you must
choose the meaning that best suits the context of your work. This is the most
important step for your reader to understand what you meant by that entry,
and therefore, understand all your work.

Write the meaning of the entries. Write the meaning you found in the
dictionary or another reliable source to the right of the entry written in bold.
The definition of each entry in your glossary should not be too long or too
small.
• Reduce it in a clear and simple way (it is key for the reader to understand).
• It does not have to be unknown words. If for example you used the word
oiled in the text to refer to something that is shiny or glossy, you must specify
it in the glossary, as follows:
• Oiled: glossy, shiny

English around the world

What do you think they have in common? An engineer in Madrid, a
Barman in a hotel in England, and an administrator in the BMW electronic
factory in Frankfurt? They work and speak English. Nowadays English is
the international language in companies from around the world. Carl
Morris works for a company in Mexico. Every day he has meetings with
other managers in English. He reads documents and writes messages in
the Laptop in English and speaks on the mobile in English with people in
other countries. He says, “We are a multinational company with offices all
over the world,' We need an international language to communicate, and
that language is English. I think that English is very important to
communicate and make business with other countries.

Read the text. Then answer the questions.

1. What do the barman, an engineer, and administrator work?

2. What does Carl do?
3. Where does he work?
