ACTIVIDAD N°1
Empecemos con la revisión de la siguiente información que nos ayudará a
reforzar lo trabajado en la sesión y las actividades posteriores.
Nos informamos
CAN
The three main uses of Can are: 1) ability 2) possibility and
3) permission. However there are some other used of Can
as we will see below. // Los tres usos principales de Can
son: 1) habilidad 2) posibilidad y 3) permiso. Sin embargo,
hay algunos otros usos de Can como veremos a
continuación.
1. To express ability
Can means to be (physically) able to do something OR to
know how to do something.
1. Para expresar habilidad
Can significa ser (físicamente) capaz de hacer algo O saber cómo
hacer algo.
2. To express a possibility (in general)
This refers to a theoretical possibility.
Note: we don't use can to talk about future possibilities. For
this you would use may or might.
2. Para expresar una posibilidad (en general)
Esto se refiere a una posibilidad teórica.
Nota: no usamos can para hablar de posibilidades futuras. Para
esto usarías may o might .
3. To offer to do something for others
Can is used when you offer to help someone or to do
something for them.
3. Ofrecerse a hacer algo por los demás
Can se usa cuando ofreces ayudar a alguien o hacer algo por él.
4. To ask for or give permission / To request something
Can is used to ask for / request permission or to give
permission.
Note: Can't is used to refuse permission.
4. Pedir o dar permiso / Pedir algo
Can se usa para pedir/pedir permiso o para dar permiso.
Nota: Can't se usa para rechazar el permiso.

Could is similar to Can and often replaces Can in the past tense
(though not always) // Podría es similar a Can y, a menudo,
reemplaza a Can en tiempo pasado (aunque no siempre)
1. To express ability in the past

4. A suggestion when asked what to do (choices and

5. Couldn't: Sure that something is untrue
Just like can't, you can use couldn't when you are sure that
something isn't true or real
5. No pude: seguro de que algo no es cierto
l igual que can't , puede usar ca n't cuando está seguro de que algo no
es cierto o real.
. 6. Could + have + past participle: To express a possibility in
the past
To express that something was possible but did not happen.
6. Could + have + participio pasado: Para expresar una posibilidad en
el pasado
Expresar que algo fue posible pero no sucedió.
