CONCEPTUALIZACIÓN
SIMPLE PRESENT
We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens regularly.
The present tense is the base form of the verb:
I work in London.
You study English
They practice basketball
But with the third person singular (she/he/it), we add an –s, typically, these are verbs form ends in O,
CH, SH, SS, X AND Z.
She works in London.
My mother washes the dishes
Look at these questions:
Do you play the piano?
Where do you live?
Does Jack play football?
Where does he come from?
Do Rita and Angela live in Manchester?
Where do they work?
We use do and does to make questions with the present simple. We use does for the third person
singular
(she/he/it) and do for the others.
But questions with who often don't use do or does:
Who lives in London?
Who plays football at the weekend?
Who works at Liverpool City Hospital?
Look at these sentences:
I like tennis but I don't like football. (don't = do not)
I don't live in London now.
I don't play the piano but I play the guitar.
They don't work at the weekend.
John doesn't live in Manchester. (doesn't = does not)
Angela doesn't drive to work. She goes by bus.
We use do and does to make negatives with the present simple. We use doesn't for the third person
singular (she/he/it) and don't for the others.
GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES
A gerund is a verb in its ing (present participle) form that functions as a noun that names an activity rather
than a person or thing. Any action verb can be made into a gerund.
Add ING to most verbs. Ex. play > playing, cry > crying, bark > barking
We use gerunds (verb + ing):
 After certain verbs
I ENJOY singing
Tony LIKES fishing
He LOVES swimming
You HATE playing on the computer
 After prepositions
I drank a cup of coffee before leaving
 As the subject or object of a sentence
Swimming is good exercise
An infinitive is a verb form that acts as other parts of speech in a sentence. It is formed with to + base form
of the verb. Ex: to buy, to work.
• I WANT TO…..
• I WOULD LIKE TO….
I WANT TO play in my computer
I WOULD LIKE TO travel to Europe.

ZERO CONDITIONAL
We use the zero conditional when we want to talk about facts or things that are generally true. Scientific
facts are often covered by the zero conditional: "When you heat ice, it melts."
The zero conditional uses if or when and must be followed by the simple present or imperative.
For example:
"When John is out of the office, I take his calls."
"If John is out of the office, I take his calls."
It is important to remember that this condition is not related to the past, present or future - it only applies to
things which are ALWAYS true.
 People die if they don't eat.
 You get water if you mix hydrogen and oxygen.

 Snakes bite if they are scared
 If babies are hungry, they cry
Tip: We often use when instead of if, for example: When I get up late, I miss my bus.

TIPS: Zero conditional:

Simple present + Simple present

Remember to use in Negative form:

Remember Verb To Be Remember to add S or ES to the verb in Don´t for I, you, we, they
(Am, is, are) the third person (He, She, It) Doesn´t for He, She, It.

FIRST CONDITIONAL
The first conditional has the present simple after 'if', then the future simple in the other clause:
if + present simple, ... will + infinitive
It's used to talk about things which might happen in the future. Of course, we can't know what will happen in
the future, but this describes possible things, which could easily come true.
If it rains, I won't go to the park.
If I study today, I'll go to the party tonight.
If I have enough money, I'll buy some new shoes.
She'll be late if the train is delayed.
She'll miss the bus if she doesn't leave soon.
If I see her, I'll tell her.
PREPOSITIONS

COUNT NOUNS and UNCOUNT NOUNS

 NOUNS are people, places and things.
 COUNTABLE NOUNS: Are nouns that we can count. They have singular and plural forms. Countable
Nouns can take a/ an /the, some or numbers before them.
EXAMPLES: The table, some telephones, a teacher, five forks, ten apples.
 UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS: Are nouns that we cannot count. They are materials, liquids or other things
that we cannot see as separate objects. They do not have plural forms. Uncountable nouns can take the
or some before them. DO NOT USE: a/ an or numbers before them.
EXAMPLES: The cheese, some sugar.
 Uncountable nouns always use a third person singular verb.
EXAMPLE: There is water in my cup.
 To make uncountable nous countable, use partitives before them.
EXAMPLES: A loaf of bread Two bottles of milk

PRONOUNS
Pronouns replace nouns. A different pronoun is required depending on two elements: the noun being
replaced and the function that noun has in the sentence.

Subject pronouns: A subject pronoun usually comes before the verb; a subject complement pronoun
follows a linking verb.
Examples
I am 16.
Jim is angry, and he wants Sally to apologize.
This table is old. It needs to be repainted.
Object pronouns: Object pronouns can be direct objects, indirect objects or objects of prepositions.
Examples
The secretary notified us today. (direct object)
My uncle sent you an e-mail.
For her, I would do anything.
Possessive adjectives (determiners): These are used before a noun.
Examples
Did mother find my shoes?
Mrs. Baker wants to see your homework.
Can Jake bring over his baseball cards?
Possessive pronouns: The possessive pronouns are used instead of personal pronoun.
Examples
This bag is mine.
Yours is not blue.
That bag looks like his.
These shoes are not hers.
That car is ours.
Reflexive & intensive pronouns: In reflexive cases, the pronoun is used before the noun, pronoun,
adjective or adverb in the same clause.
Examples:
I wash the car myself.
He completed his assignments himself.
SECOND CONDITIONAL
The second conditional uses the past simple after if, then 'would' and the infinitive:
if + past simple, ...would + infinitive
(We can use 'were' instead of 'was' with 'I' and 'he/she/it'. This is mostly done in formal writing).

It has two uses.

First, we can use it to talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true. Maybe I'm
imagining some dream for example.

If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house. (I probably won't win the lottery)
If I met the Queen of England, I would say hello.
She would travel all over the world if she were rich.
She would pass the exam if she ever studied. (She never studies, so this won't happen)
Second, we can use it to talk about something in the present which is impossible, because it's not true. Is
that clear? Have a look at the examples:

If I had his number, I would call him. (I don't have his number now, so it's impossible for me to call him).
