EXERCISE 1
You have a Project to build a new fence. The fence is four sided as shown at left. Each side is to
take one day to build, and $ 1.000 has been budgeted per side. The sides are planned to be
completed one after the other. Today is the end of day 3. Using the following project status
chart, calculate the different parameters, in the spaces provided. Do the calculations to three
decimal places on the exercises, at the end of the day 3.
S = Actual start
F = Actual finish
PS = Planned start
PF = Planned finish
EXERCISE 2
What is the EV if you CPI is 1.1, you SPI is 0.92, and you AC is $ 10.000? Which reverse formula
would you use?
EV
EV =? CPI= → EV =CPI∗AC EV =1,1∗$ 10.000 EV =$ 11.000
AC
EXERCISE 3
What is you SPI if you CV is $ 10.000, your SV is -$3.000, and your PV is $ 100.000?
EV $ 103.000
SPI= SV =EV −PV EV =SV + PV EV =$ 103.000 SPI= SPI=1,03
PV $ 100.000
EXERCISE 4
EXERCISE 5
In the latest earned value report for your project, you see the CPI is 1.2, the SPI is 0.8, the PV is $
600.000, and the SV is -$120.000. You cannot find the CV in the report, so you need to calculate it
based on the information given. What is the CV?
EV
CV =EV − AC CPI= EV =SV + PV EV =−$ 120.000+ $ 600.000=$ 480.000
AC
CV =$ 480.000−$ 400.000CV =$ 80.000
EXERCISE 6
The cost performance index CPI and the schedule performance index SPI can be charted each
month to show the project trends. Based on the diagram, what would you be concerned about
cost and schedule if you were taking over this project for each quarter?

SPI CPI
