EVIDENCIA 4: TALLER “SAFETY SIGNS”

Cada empresa debe estar debidamente adecuada con señales de seguridad,

tanto en inglés como en español, y así cumplir con los requerimientos de
seguridad e información que exige el estado. Por esto, se considera
indispensable tener claridad acerca de las características de estas señales, con
el fin de implementarlas de manera adecuada. Es aquí, donde el material de
formación: "Permission and request in security and health", junto con el material
complementario, cumplen una función relevante durante el proceso de
formación de este programa.

Para la presente actividad de aprendizaje, el aprendiz deberá desarrollar un

taller que dé cuenta de los conocimientos que ha adquirido en el área técnica y
que ha afianzado mediante el material de formación del área de inglés,
anteriormente nombrado. Para realizar esta evidencia, se deberá tener en
cuenta lo siguiente:

1. Estudiar el material de formación: "Permission and request in security

and health" y consultar el material complementario.
2. Desarrollar el taller “Safety signs” en la herramienta ofimática de su
preferencia.
3. Enviar el archivo al instructor en formato .doc o .pdf a través de la
plataforma virtual de aprendizaje.

Safety Signs can be found in different places and situations. Each signal type
comes in a standardized color and shape, and are placed in very specific places,
so people can recognize them easily. This information was studied on the training
material "“Permission and request in security and health” " and the complementary

4. Dialogue

Teniendo en cuenta el material de aprendizaje “Permission and request in security and

health” y el material complementario “Modals”, proponga un diálogo donde se presenten
varios personajes y se utilicen los verbos modales en inglés, sobre las advertencias y
precauciones que se deben considerar para advertir peligros en la empresa. El diálogo
debe tener mínimo tres personajes y cada uno debe tener por lo menos tres (3)
intervenciones y estar enfocado en el proyecto formativo en el cual trabaja actualmente.

Instructor: After having completed the security training, we will take a tour of the
facilities to know how much you learned during it and I will ask you some questions
about the topics seen. Shall we???
Garcia: Yes sir
Ramirez: Let´s go.
Instructor: You can't take a cell phone to the tour
Garcia: Why not?
Instructor: Because it could cause distraction. Both for you and for the staff that is
working at the moment.
Ramirez: Oops ... I brought mine ... I already turned it off. I should have left it in the
locker.

Instructor: That is correct. And where could we find them?

Ramírez: We can find them at gas stations, specially that one “No smoking”. And
at the entrance of the building there is a notice like the one we found in the banks.
It has an image of a cell phone and a diagonal red band. I should pay more
attention to the signs at the entrance.

Instructor: Exactly. Well done. Now tell me, the signs with a yellow background
and a black drawing, what do they tell us?

García: They warn us about danger. For example, we pass near the electricity
panel, a notice with that description is painted on it. That tells us that if handled
improperly, we could be electrocuted.

Ramírez: I would not go near that panel. I am afraid of electricity.

Instructor: You are paying attention to the signs. Excellent appreciation. Now, if I
find a sign with a green color and a white background, what would it indicate?

Ramírez: It means that is an area with information about security conditions. It can
take us to a safe exit or evacuation area; it also tells us if there is a first aid kit or
where to go in case of emergency.

Instructor: That was well explained. Those signs are the most important when an
emergency arises and there are no evacuation personnel on hand. They will take
us to a safe place. At the main gate there are several signs. Can you name and
describe them?

Garcia: There are about seven signs. They are blue and white in background

Ramirez: That means that what is indicated on the sign is mandatory.

Garcia: One of the signs has a painted helmet. That means you must put on your
helmet to enter the warehouse..

Ramirez: Why is helmet use so important?

Instructor: The use of a helmet is important because it would prevent objects at

height from falling and causing injury to your head.

García :Then, should you wear a helmet when entering the warehouse?
Instructor: Yes. It is mandatory. The notices on the cellar door, as we saw earlier,
indicate this obligation.

Ramirez: There is also one with headphones. This area is too noisy. So hearing
protection is required to mitigate loud sounds. Failure to do so could result in
severe hearing damage.

Garcia: That area over there what is it? Can we go there?

Instructor: No, we can't. It is a restricted area where only authorized personnel

can enter. There the stamping process is handled.

Ramirez: Is entry restricted because there may be loss of documents?

Instructor: That is one of the restrictions. Although in fact, no outsider could enter
there. You must have an authorized security pass for the door to open. Security is
electronic because those stamps that are handled on the site are high risk.

García: I noticed that there is a large notice on the door saying that unauthorized
personnel are prohibited from entering.

Instructor: Very well. In this area below, smoking is prohibited.

García: I suppose that due to the presence of fuels, right?

Instructor: That's right. This is the fuel storage area. Therefore, they should not
smoke or cause sparks in this area. It is evident that you observed all the notices
in the main entrance of the warehouse. Paying attention to all the signs and
knowing the meaning of each one helps us to improve safety conditions in our
work, reduce risks and avoid accidents as much as possible. Thank you.
