Pronombres: Somebody, anybody, nowhere

En inglés es frecuente encontrar combinaciones con some, any y no para hablar sin concretar de
personas, lugares y cosas. De esta manera podemos encontrar las siguientes combinaciones:

Utilizamos some para frases afirmativas:

something somebody someone

algo alguien alguien

somewhere sometime
en alguna parte alguna vez

I am starving, I want something to eat

I am starving, I want something to eat.

Estoy muerta de hambre, quiero algo de comer.

Someone has phoned you this morning, but I don't know who.
Alguien te llamó esta mañana, pero no se quien.

I want to go somewhere sunny.

Quiero ir a un lugar soleado.

There's somebody at the door.

Hay alguien en la puerta.

Utilizamos any en las frases negativas e interrogativas:

anything anybody anyone

nada; algo nadie; alguien nadie; alguien

anywhere
ninguna parte; alguna parte
 Are you going anywhere tonight ? Yes, I´m going
to the cinema with Mark

Are you going anywhere tonight? Yes, I'm going to the cinema with Mark.
Are you going anywhere tonight? Yes, I'm going to the movie theater with Mark.
¿Vas a alguna parte esta noche? Sí, voy al cine con Mark.

Is there anybody at home right now? No, there isn't.

¿Hay alguien en casa ahora mismo? No, no hay nadie.

I don't fancy anything to drink, thanks.

I don't feel like anything to drink, thanks.
No tengo ganas de tomar nada, gracias.

I haven't seen anybody, are you sure they were there?

No he visto a nadie. ¿Estás segura de que ellos estaban allí?

Utilizamos no para negar una oración:

En este caso el verbo debe ir en afirmativo aunque el sentido de la frase sea negativo.

No sé dónde están ellos, no había nadie en casa.

I'm looking for a hotel because I have nowhere to go tonight.

Estoy buscando un hotel porque no tengo ningún sitio a donde ir esta noche.

There is nothing to eat, I'm going to the supermarket. Do you fancy anything?
There is nothing to eat, I'm going to the supermarket. Would you like anything?
No hay nada de comer, voy al supermercado. ¿Te apetece algo?

There was nobody at school yesterday. It was a bank holiday.

There was nobody at school yesterday. It was a national holiday.
No había nadie en el colegio ayer. Era feriado.

Negación

Observa que en inglés no existe la doble negación. El español sí la

admite en algunos casos.

There was nobody at home.

No había nadie en casa.

INCORRECTO: there wasn't nobody at home

I said nothing.
No dije nada.

INCORRECTO: I didn't say nothing

I had nowhere to go.

No tenía ningún sitio a donde ir.
 INCORRECTO: I didn't have nowhere to go

Else:

Todos estos compuestos pueden ir seguidos de else. Observa que es frecuente también encontrar
detrás un verbo en infinitivo.

Do you want anything else to drink? No, thank

you. I'm fine

Do you want anything else to drink? No, thank you. I'm fine.
¿Quieres algo más de tomar? No, gracias. Estoy bien.

Is there anything else to do? No, we have already finished.

¿Hay algo más que hacer? No, nosotros ya hemos terminado.

We were at the hostel because there was nowhere else to go that night.
Estábamos en el hostal, porque no había ningún sitio más al que ir esa noche.

I was paying attention to him, but he had nothing else to say.

Yo le estaba prestando atención, pero él no tenía nada más que decir.

Are we waiting for somebody? No, nobody else is coming.

¿Estamos esperando a alguien? No, no viene nadie más.

Is there anything else to drink? I'm thirsty.

¿Hay algo más de tomar? Tengo sed.

Do you have anything to read? I'm bored.

¿Tienes algo de leer? Estoy aburrido.
