ABSTRACT
The reaction of a carboxylic acid with an alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst
is one of the conventional methods for preparing esters . Both the esterification and
the reverse reaction , ester hydrolysis , have been much studied in order to
elucidate the mechanism of this reversible process. In this practice it was carried
out the preparation of an ester ( isoamyl acetate ) from alcohol ( isoamyl alcohol)
and a carboxylic acid (acetic acid) . some laboratory techniques and are known as
refluxing , extraction and simple distillation were applied. The percent yield for this
practice was 74.23 %.
