LIBERACIÓN: Células somatótropas

ACCIONES:
Crecimiento lineal
Anabolizante: Aumenta síntesis proteica
Lipolítica: Favorece movilización de ácidos grasos del tejido adiposo
Diabetógena: Disminuye la cantidad de glucosa utilizada en todo el
organismo

EFECTOS: La GH favorece el aumento de tamaño

- Directos: GH (hipertrofia) de las células
- Indirectos: IFG - 1 y estimula la mitosis (hiperplasia)

El IGF-1 se une a al menos a dos
receptores de la membrana celular: el
receptor de IGF-1 (IGF1R), y el
receptor de insulina. El IGF-1 tiene una
alta afinidad por el receptor de IGF-1, y
una baja afinidad por el receptor de
insulina.
Estos receptores son tirosina quinasa
(significando que señalizan causando
la adición de una molécula de fosfato en
ciertas tirosinas).
El IGF-1 activa el receptor insulínico
aproximadamente a una potencia 0.1x
veces que la insulina.
El IGF-1 es producido durante toda la
vida. Los mayores niveles se producen
durante el crecimiento pubertad, los
menores en la infancia y la vejez.
El receptor de la hormona del
crecimiento (GH-R) además de
regular primordialmente el
crecimiento, presenta otras
funciones biológicas de
importancia tales como la
regulación del metabolismo y el
control de los procesos
fisiológicos relacionados con los
sistemas hepatobiliar,
cardiovascular, renal,
gastrointestinal y reproductivo.
La activación de JAK2 es
necesaria para la activación de
STAT1, STAT3 y STAT5 mediada
por la hormona de crecimiento, y
la regulación negativa de la
señalización de JAK-STAT

Los niveles de la hGH varían durante el día. Hay muchos factores que influyen en la tasa de
secreción de la hormona del crecimiento, entre las que se incluyen los periodos de sueño-vigilia, el
ejercicio, el estrés, la hipoglucemia, estrógenos, corticosteroides y L-dopa.
Debido a su similitud con la prolactina y el lactógeno de la placenta, anteriores inmunoensayos de la
hormona del crecimiento arrojaban a menudo valores erróneamente altos en mujeres gestantes y
en periodo de lactancia.
Los individuos con déficit de hormona del crecimiento tienen niveles, en ayunas y descanso,
similares a los de los individuos sanos.

Preparación del paciente

Ayuno de 10-12 h previo a la extracción. El paciente debe estar descansado y en ayunas 30 minutos
antes de la toma de la muestra.

Valores de referencia
Hombres adultos: de 0.4 a 10 nanogramos por mililitro (ng/mL) o de 18 a 44
picomoles por litro (pmol/L)
Mujeres adultas: de 1 a 14 ng/mL o de 44 a 616 pmol/L.
Niños: de 10 a 50 ng/mL, o de 440 a 2200 pmol/L.
