El envejecimiento es una situación
biológica normal que se produce dentro de
un proceso dinámico, progresivo,
irreversible, complejo y variado, que
difiere en la forma en cómo afecta a las
distintas personas e incluso a diferentes
órganos

Evaluación del consumo de medicamentos
Se deben revisar todos los medicamentos que
toma, ya sea por prescripción o
automedicación, con el fin de identificar
posibles interacciones medicamentosas y
factores de riesgo.

Evaluación de los problemas de audición y visión

Se busca identificar los problemas de audición y visión.

La disminución de la agudeza auditiva y visual
repercuten en la vida social del adulto mayor se aíslan,
su sociabilidad disminuye y su independencia funcional
también se ve comprometida.
 Evaluación de la incontinencia urinaria

Los problemas relacionados a la incontinencia

urinaria también son evaluados aquí. La incontinencia
urinaria es más frecuente en mujeres que en hombres,
incrementa el riesgo de padecer infecciones en el tracto
urinario, úlceras por presión, aislamiento, depresión, Evaluación de la condición nutricional
ingesta crónica de medicamentos, entre otros.
Para valorar la condición nutricional del adulto
mayor se debe considerar la
situación socioeconómica, depresión, malos
hábitos alimenticios, salud dental y deterioro
cognoscitivo factores que influyen en la
alimentación del adulto mayor.
Valoración Mental y Psico-afectiva
del Adulto Mayor
Esta es una Valoración del estado mental y cognitivo del
adulto mayor. Cuando hablamos del estado mental nos
referimos a las condiciones de depresión y ansiedad que
pueden tener consecuencias tales como pérdida del
apetito, baja autoestima, trastornos del sueño, entre otros.
 Evaluación del Deterioro Cognitivo
Para evaluar el Deterioro cognitivo es
necesario hacer el Mínimo Examen de
Salud Mental (por sus siglas en inglés
MMSE). Este instrumento se aplica en
menos de 10 minutos y en los resultados
podemos identificar de forma temprana el
deterioro mental y cognoscitivo del adulto
mayor.
Evaluación de Trastornos del Sueño
Se recomienda la evaluación de posibles
Trastornos del Sueño en el adulto mayor
ya que las consecuencias clínicas de
este conlleva a desorientación, delirium,
somnolencia diurna, mayor riesgo de
caídas y lesiones entre otras.
 Evaluación de Depresión

Para la valoración de la Depresión en el adulto

mayor se aplica la escala de Yesavage, una prueba
que consiste en 30 preguntas que se contestan con Sí
o No, respecto al sentir del adulto mayor durante la
última semana.
Evaluación de Delirium
El Delirium en adultos mayores está
caracterizado por cambios
fluctuantes en el estado mental y
de la conciencia.
Valoración Funcional del Adulto Mayor
El objetivo principal de la Valoración Funcional del Adulto
mayor es evaluar su capacidad para realizar actividades
cotidianas de la vida diaria de forma autónoma. También
funciona como indicador de expectativa de vida: a mayor
dependencia, menor calidad de vida tendrá el adulto mayor.
 Evaluación de Actividades Básicas (ABVD)
La disminución de la capacidad funcional de un adulto
mayor es un fenómeno muy frecuente en esta población y
en algunas ocasiones puede ser un indicador de alguna
enfermedad aún no diagnosticada.
Evaluación de Actividades Instrumentales
Cuando hablamos de Actividades
Instrumentales nos referimos a la realización de
actividades más complejas como salir de
compras, utilizar un teléfono, preparar la
comida entre otras.
 Evaluación de Riesgo de Caídas
El Riesgo de Caídas es multifactorial y en algunos
casos es síntoma de enfermedades. Cerca de un 20%
de adultos mayores de 65 años tienen algún tipo de
limitación física que fomenta las caídas.
Evaluación de Riesgo de Úlceras por Presión
Para valora el Riesgo de ulceras por presión se
utiliza la escala de Braden, está amparada en
la fisiopatología de las úlceras por presión y
permite la evaluación de aspectos importantes
para la formación de la úlcera
