The city of Lima is currently facing an unusual heat wave, with daytime
temperatures that could exceed 30 °C, representing an increase of between 2
and 3 degrees above normal, according to the National Meteorological and
Hydrological Service of Peru ( Senamhi).
Even though autumn should have started in our country on March 20, the high temperatures continue and, on the contrary,
the strong rays of the sun and the feeling of sultry have impacted the thousands of citizens who, between fans, Air
conditioning, constant showers and high water consumption try to calm the inclement weather a little, but what will be the
effects of this intense heat wave?
“Peru is going through a climate crisis and it is very likely that, due to functional alterations of climate regulating agents,
these will cause us to experience tropicalization closely linked to the consequences of global warming,” mentioned Paolo
Amaya, biologist and professor at the César Vallejo University ( UCV).
At another time, the specialist noted: “Currently, every climatic manifestation is associated with real global warming and
actions such as mitigation and adaptation must be taken to address the events that affect the planet. An interesting and
significant strategy is to put the 17 SDGs into practice in all countries; Given this, I am sure that it will serve a lot and great
results will be achieved that will benefit future generations to continue safeguarding planet Earth.”
It is important that we all take the necessary precautions, as this intense heat wave could extend towards the end of May and
also increase the risk of natural phenomena.
