Los símbolos naturales son elementos de la flora, la fauna o la geografía que representan
culturalmente a un país. Estos símbolos pueden apoyarse en las características de algún
atractivo natural para representar cualidades destacables de sus habitantes.
Estos son los 3 símbolos naturales de Venezuela: Venezuela tiene tres símbolos naturales
oficiales: el Araguaney (un árbol), la orquídea (una flor) y el turpial (un ave).
Características: esta variante se caracteriza por su color violeta claro, en tonos lila, pero hay
otras variedades. Entre los colores más comunes, se encuentran el blanco, el amarillo y otros
tonos de violeta más oscuro, rosado o morado. Es una variedad unifoliada, de una hoja, su
tamaño llega a los 14 centímetros y es polinizada por insectos machos. Sus pétalos tienen
bordes ondulados y suelen caer ligeramente, posee un labelo grande y pequeñas manchas de
colores. Sin embargo, también se encuentra una amplia variedad de géneros y especies en el
país.
El Turpial: El turpial es el tercero en haber sido nombrado entre los símbolos naturales de
Venezuela. Es un ave que puede encontrarse por casi todo el territorio nacional. Se caracteriza
por su canto matutino y su combinación de colores, anaranjado con negro y manchas blancas y
azules.

Venezuela has three official natural symbols: the Araguaney (a tree), the orchid (a flower) and the turpial
(a bird).
The Araguaney: The Araguaney is the national tree of Venezuela. This beauty of nature was the first to
be declared one of the Venezuelan natural symbols. It is a tree that can be seen all over the national
territory and is very appreciated for its beauty. Its main characteristic is that it blooms and turns
completely yellow during a certain time of the year.
Characteristics: its trunk can be approximately 60 centimeters in diameter and its height varies between
6 and 12 meters. It is slow growing and lives for many years. Its wood is one of the most compact and
heavy in the country, so much so that it does not float in water. Its leaves are green most of the year,
but turn yellow temporarily at the beginning of the rainy season.
The Orchid: The orchid is a beautiful flower, popularly known in Venezuela as "Flor de Mayo", which
grows mainly on trees. It is characterized by its light violet color, but there is a wide variety of colors and
species. It was the second element of the national flora to be named one of the natural symbols of
Venezuela.
Characteristics: this variant is characterized by its light violet color, in shades of lilac, but there are other
varieties. Among the most common colors are white, yellow and other shades of darker violet, pink or
purple. It is a unifoliate variety, with one leaf, its size reaches 14 centimeters and is pollinated by male
insects. Its petals have wavy edges and tend to droop slightly, it has a large labellum and small colored
spots. However, a wide variety of genera and species are also found in the country.
The Turpial: The turpial is the third to be named among the natural symbols of Venezuela. It is a bird
that can be found throughout most of the national territory. It is characterized by its morning song and
its combination of colors, orange with black and white and blue spots.
Characteristics: its color combination stands out: orange or yellow body, black tail, black wings with
white spots and black head with a blue spot around the eyes. Its beak is dark with white spots, conical in
shape and slightly elongated. Its size can vary between 15 and 22 centimeters. It feeds mainly on insects,
fruits, eggs of other birds or even smaller birds. It can live alone or in pairs and its mating cycle goes
from March to September. One of its most appreciated qualities is its varied and melodious song.
