PRESENT CONTINUOUS:
Una acción en progreso en el momento que se está hablando: The teacher is speaking
right now
Acciones temporales o situaciones en un periodo largo: We are studying the present
tenses this month
Para describir un hábito molesto (se usa con always, forever, constantly): My little sister
is always taking my games
Para describir un plan o un acuerdo 100% en el futuro: I am travelling to London next
weekend
Para tendencias que cambian o situaciones en desarrollo: More species of animals are
suffering the climate change
Expresiones: Con significado de futuro:
- At the moment - Next week
- Now - On Tuesday
- Right now - Son
- Today - This week
- Tonight - Tomorrow
- Tonight
PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE:
Una acción completada que tuvo lugar en un momento no especificado del pasado, pero
que sigue siendo relevante en el presesnte: I have just spoken to the teacher
Una acción que empezó en el pasado y continúa en el presente. Normalmente se usa con
palabras como for y since: I’ve known Sara since we started school
Para periodos de tiempo inacabados con palabras como so far, today…: I have drunk a
coffee this morning --------------- Con Past Simple sería: I drank a coffee yesterday
morning
Acciones repetidas en el pasado: I’ve travelled to Paris 3 times
Con superlativos y expresiones como this is the first, the last, the second time…: This is
the best birthday I’ve ever had
Para dar información o anunciar un evento reciente: She has gone to her grandparents
house this weekend
Expresiones:
- Since: para un punto de tiempo concreto: I have known her since 2020
Since 24th may 2020, since Monday, since I was 10 years old, since yesterday, since
5:00
- For: Para un periodo de tiempo: I have known her for 3 years , for 5 hours, for
10 years
- Already = ya (se usa solo en afirmativo): I have already finished my homework
- Just = acabar de acabar (se usa en afurmativo): I have just finished my
homework
- Yet = aún no (se usa en negativas): I haven’t finished my homework yet
- Never = nunca (en afirmativas): I have never travelled to Asia
Expresiones de tiempo:
- Always - Today
- Lately - This week/month/year
- Recently - Several times
- So far - How long…?
PAST SIMPLE:
Una acción completada, que tuvo lugar en un momento específico en el pasado: We ate
pizza yesterday
Dos acciones o eventos que sucedieron rápido, una detrás de otra: I washed the
vegetables, cut them and fried them
Una rutina or hábito del pasado (similar a “used to”): when we were younger, we
walked to school every day. When we were younger, we used to walk to school every
day
Para describir los eventos principales en una historia: It was late at night, but we heard
the door opening
Expresiones de tiempo:
- ______ ago (a month, 2 days, 3 years, a couple of hours)
- Last _____ (week, decade, century, year)
- Yesterday
- In _____ (2020, January)
- When
- The other day
PAST CONTINUOUS:
Una acción en progeso en un momento específico en el pasado: Yesterday, al 3:00 I was
sleeping
Dos o más acciones en progreso sin acabar al mismo tiempo en el pasado: I was
watching TV while my sister was doing her homework
Un acción sin acabar en progreso (usamos Past Continuous) que fue interrumpida por
otra acción más corta (usamos Past Simple): I was sleeping when you called me
Expresiones de tiempo:
- As
- While
- At _____ (nine o’clock)
- Yesterday
PAST PERFECT SIMPLE:
Una acción completada que tuvo lugar antes de otra acción, o en un momento específico
del pasado: By the time we got to the party, Carlos had already left
Importante: Cuando hay 2 acciones, la acción más reciente va en pasado simple: La
primera acción sería Carlos leaves the party, y la segunda acción We get to the party.
Acciones o hechos no cumplidos o realizados, o deseos: We had hoped to go away for
the weekend, but we couldn’t agree on where to travel
Expresiones de tiempo:
- After - As soon as - By the time
- Already - Before
BE GOING TO:
Un plan, intención o decisión en el futuro: Today we are going to learn the vocabulary
Una predicción basada en una situación o evidencia actual: Look at the black clouds: it’s
going to rain
WILL:
Una opinión, predicción sin pruebas o especulación sobre el futuro: I think it will rain
later
Una sugerencia, ofrecimiento o pedir algo: We want to go to the cinema tomorrow. Will
you come with us?
Voluntad o rechazar hacer algo: I have said it 3 times. I won’t say it again.
Una decision espontánea: I don’t understand it. Don’t worry, I will explain it again
Información sobre el futuro: Next week, we will play a game in class to practice the
futures
FUTURE CONTINUOUS:
Una acción que estará en progreso en un momento específico en el futuro: This time
next year, we will be studying algebra
Un evento que se espera que suceda: We will be having an exam tomorrow at 12:10
Para hacer una pregunta de manera educada o preguntar de manera formal por lo planes
de alguien: When will you be visiting us?
Para algo que va a ser inevitable que suceda: I’ll bring you some fruit, I’ll go to the
supermarket anyway
Expresiones de tiempo:
- This time next month,
- In the next decade,
- On Monday,
USED TO:
Un hábito, rutina, acción o situación del pasado que sucedía normalmente pero que ya
no sucede y no es verdad: I used to travel to my village every weekend when I was a
child.
Importante: En la forma negativa, en vez de didn’t use to, se puede poner never used to.
