Another Special Order

Otro pedido especial
The summer passed. The Corner Shop was always
busy. Sometimes, Dave opened the |shop on Sundays
too. Anna earned a lot of money. Everyone thought that
she was happy.

ocupada. A veces, Dave también abría la tienda los
domingos. Anna ganó mucho dinero. Todos pensaron
que ella era feliz.
But life was difficult for her. She liked Dave. He was her
boss, and he was older than her. But Peter was her
fiance, and he was about the same age. Dave was quite
rich, but Peter had no money. Dave bought Anna
clothes, and he took her out. Peter did not buy her
clothes and never took her anywhere. He was more
interested in football. Anna did not like football.
Pero la vida era difícil para ella. A ella le gustaba Dave.
Él era su jefe y era mayor que ella. Pero Peter era su
prometido y tenía más o menos la misma edad. Dave
era bastante rico, pero Peter no tenía dinero. Dave le
compró ropa a Anna y la sacó. Peter no le compraba
ropa y nunca la llevaba a ninguna parte. Estaba más
interesado en el fútbol. A Anna no le gustaba el fútbol.
Now it was September. Peter played football every
Saturday. One Saturday, there was a big football match
on television. Mr Hart had the biggest television in the
village and he invited some people to his house. He
invited Peter and Anna.
Ahora era septiembre. Peter jugaba al fútbol todos los
sábados. Un sábado, había un gran partido de fútbol en
la televisión. El señor Hart tenía el televisor más grande
del pueblo e invitó a algunas personas a su casa. Invitó
a Peter y Anna.
On Friday, the day before the match, Anna was working
in the shop all day. At five o'clock, she locked the shop
door. Two minutes later, the bell rang and Anna went to
the door. There was a young man outside. He was
carrying a small case.
El viernes, el día antes del partido, Anna estuvo
trabajando en la tienda todo el día. A las cinco en punto,
cerró la puerta de la tienda. Dos minutos más tarde,
sonó el timbre y Anna fue a la puerta. Afuera había un
joven. Llevaba un maletín pequeño.
'Hello,' she said. 'Can I help you? '
'Hola', dijo ella. '¿Puedo ayudarte? '
'I hope so,' said the young man. 'I want to see Mr Slatin.'
—Eso espero —dijo el joven—. Quiero ver al señor
Slatin.
'I'm afraid that the shop is closed now,' said Anna. 'We
are open tomorrow morning. '
"Me temo que la tienda está cerrada ahora", dijo Anna.
'Abrimos mañana por la mañana. '
'But I've got an appointment,' said the young man.
'Pero tengo una cita', dijo el joven.
Then Dave spoke behind Anna. She had not seen him.
Entonces Dave habló detrás de Anna. Ella no lo había
visto.
'Yes, I've been waiting for you,' said Dave. 'You're late. '
Sí, te he estado esperando', dijo Dave. 'Llegas tarde. '
'I'm very sorry Mr Slatin, said the young man. 'I was...'
-Lo siento mucho, señor Slatin, dijo el joven. 'Era...'
'Never mind. Never mind' said Dave rudely.
'No importa. No importa' dijo Dave groseramente.
His rudeness surprised Anna. The young man seemed
afraid.
Su rudeza sorprendió a Anna. El joven parecía
asustado.
'But can you see me now? ' he asked.
'¿Pero puedes verme ahora? ' preguntó.
'Yes,¨said Dave. ´Come in.¨
'Sí,' dijo Dave. Adelante
Dave turned to Anna.
Dave se volvió hacia Anna.
Anna, it's after five o'clock. You can go home now.
Anna, son más de las cinco. Puedes irte a casa ahora.
'I won´t be long ,´said Anna.
'No tardaré', dijo Anna.
' Dave was angry. 'Hurry up and go home,' he said.
Dave estaba enojado. 'Date prisa y vete a casa', dijo.
But Anna wanted to stay. She wanted to know about the
young man. The young man followed Dave to the back
of the shop and into the Special Orders room.
Pero Anna quería quedarse. Quería saber sobre el
joven. El joven siguió a Dave hasta la parte trasera de
la tienda y entró en la sala de pedidos especiales.
Another Special Order! Another Special
Customer! Anna waited.
¡Otro pedido especial! Otro cliente especial! Ana
esperó.
But soon it was half past five. Anna put her coat on and
left the shop. She closed the door very loudly. Then she
went round the corner, and waited.
Pero pronto eran las cinco y media. Anna se puso el
abrigo y salió de la tienda. Cerró la puerta muy fuerte.
Luego dobló la esquina y esperó.
Soon, there was a noise. The young man was leaving
the shop. Anna could not see him, but she could hear
him. He was speaking to Dave.
Pronto, hubo un ruido. El joven salía de la tienda. Anna
no podía verlo, pero podía oírlo. Estaba hablando con
Dave.
'Are you sure? ' said the young man.
'¿Está seguro? dijo el joven.
'What do you mean? ' asked Dave.
'¿Qué quieres decir? ', preguntó Dave.
'Is this the only way? ' said the young man.
'¿Es esta la única manera? dijo el joven.
'Yes, it is,' said Dave. 'Don't worry. Everything will be all
right. Goodbye. '
'Sí, lo es,' dijo Dave. 'No te preocupes. Todo va a estar
bien. Adiós. '
Anna heard the shop door close. She came round the
corner and saw the young man. He was walking quickly
to his car. Anna noticed immediately that he was not
carrying his case. She followed him.
Anna oyó cerrarse la puerta de la tienda. Dobló la
esquina y vio al joven. Iba caminando rápidamente
hacia su coche. Anna notó de inmediato que no llevaba
su maleta. Ella lo siguió.
'Excuse me,' she said. 'You've forgotten something. You
have left something behind. '
'Disculpe', dijo ella. Has olvidado algo. Has dejado algo
atrás. '
The young man turned round. Anna stopped. Suddenly
she was frightened. The Young man´s face was white. It
was white with fear.
El joven se dio la vuelta. Ana se detuvo. De repente se
asustó. El rostro del Joven estaba blanco. Estaba
blanco de miedo.
'Please go away,' said the young man. 'Leave me
alone. I want to go home. Leave me alone.´
'Por favor, vete', dijo el joven. 'Déjame en paz. Quiero ir
a casa. Déjame en paz
He got into his car and drove off. Anna stood in the street
and watched him. She was thinking.
Se montó en su coche y se fue. Anna se paró en la calle
y lo miró. Ella estaba pensando.
Why had the young man come to The Corner Shop?
What was his Special Order? And why had he left his
small case with Dave Slatin?
