Activate the interpretation window and highlight Inline 1440 of your seismic
amplitude volume Kora3D to display it . You might get an image like this:
Notice you can see what line you have displayed on the interpretation window in
the 2D window. I set the variance on -1020ms
4
As we did for the fault interpretation click the (1) Show viewport
settings icon.

Choose a Y-scale of 1:50,000 and a Z-scale of 5. You need to expand your data
(especially vertically!) to accurately pick peaks and troughs. It is often most
efficient to interpret picks on a ‘squash plot’, that is, one where the vertical scale
is exaggerated, and the horizontal scale is squeezed, allowing you to see the
entire line in one window without needing to scroll through it.
5
My image now looks like this. Note the time axis on the left.
6
Here is a quick summary of some of the scaling used in
interpretation windows.

Note the color legend falls off the panel.
9
To properly display the color bar, you need
to (1) click the Show/hide autolegend icon.
Then (2) click the Autolegend settings
arrow.
10
After a whole lot of work I obtain the image below with my color
legend in it.

3D Interpretation Lab 5. Horizon Interpretation
13
Los horizontes se definen de manera análoga a la forma en que definió las
fallas.
(1) Asegúrese de que su pestaña de horizontes esté resaltada, haga clic con
el botón derecho en la pestaña. Luego, haga clic en new (2) y seleccionelo
para desplegar la ventana Auto and manual tracking, haga clic (3)
14

Autotracking Settings
Settings for autotracking are accessed from the Settings tab of the interpreted

3D Interpretation Lab 5. Horizon Interpretation
18
I continue to pick the horizon as it goes across the fault. Use the horizons
above as a guide as to whether the reflectors are up- or down-thrown across
the fault. Since this is a rifting event, most of the faults are normal faults, such
that the reflectors slide down on the hanging wall and appear to have slid up
on the foot wall.
I want to generate a grid of picks, every 10 lines by 10 lines. I suspect that the
data are well behaved about (1) crossline 430, so I next display Xline 430.
19
Here is the display Xline 1720. Note the pick on Inline 1120 is posted as a
magenta dot (arrow).
20
Now let’s go look at the picks in a 3D window. I highlight my 3D window,
then put a check mark in front of the Magenta horizon and obtain the
following image. Note how our picks are progressing across the surface.
The red color corresponds to the depth of the picks, which I can barely read
to be about 1500 ms. I click the Settings for the autolegend and set the
foreground to be black so I can read the annotation as shown on the next
page. Note the green arrow means we are looking at the data from above.
21
22
Here I display Xline 1950. notice there is no continuous reflector in the center
(1) part, therefore we must use manual picks (there is really no correct way to
pick here since there is no data to pick, so make your best trying to follow the
most continues reflector you see ) here is my interpretation.
23
Or alternatively, leave it like on the pic below,(do not pick it), and I will
show you how to create a surface out it in the next lab
24
Go pick your grid of lines on a 10 x 10 increment. I set the color bar to span
the min and max of the picked events. I then open a new 2D window, highlight
it, and display my magenta horizon
25
I also plot my blue fault. Go pick all of the magenta horizon on a 10 by 10 grid.
