- Multifactorial interventions Falls and their consequences are a major health problem among the elderly population due to the high ra-
tes of comorbidity, disability and even death that they can entail. They are, in turn, one of the most cha-
racteristic paradigms of the so-called geriatric syndromes. The medical community has not always been
aware of the importance of this health problem. Best practice guidelines focus on providing simple sys-
tems for detection, assessment and treatment. The available scientific evidence is clear as to how this di-
sease should be detected and assessed but, more important still, it is also clear as to the most effective
interventions. The care practice protocol that we present systematically covers the decision-making pro-
cess and interventions that all clinicians should follow when faced with this disorder in elderly people li-
ving in the community.
