COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

COUNTABLE NOUNS: They are things we can count by units. They have singular and plural.

Examples:

one onion one sausage

two onions two sausages

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS: They are things we can´t count by units. They are part of a whole and use a
measure unit. NO plurals.

Examples:

Milk Salt Bean

 SINGULAR NOUNS

There is / there isn´t = hay /no hay

There is a lemon
There isn´t any sugar.

PLURAL NOUNS

There are / there aren´t = hay /no hay

There are 4 lemons.

There aren´t any lemons.

QUANTIFIERS

 a/ an = un, uno, una

We use “a” when the next word stars with consonant. Example: a potato, a chicken
We use “an” when the next word stars with vowel. Example: an egg, an orange

 Some,any = algun@s, un poco.

We use “some” and “any” before plurals and uncountable nouns.

 Some is used in affirmative sentences (+)

There are some eggs.
There is some flour.

 Any is used in negative sentences (-) and questions (?)

There aren´t any eggs.
There isn´t any coffee.
Are there any eggs?
