RESUMEN
SUMMARY
The compartment syndrome (SC) is defined by presenting signs and symptoms that are
related to the increase in pressure of a compartment in an extremity of the body, which
leads to the reduction of vascular perfusion and, therefore, to ischemia. of the
compartment that is affected. The main injuries that lead to a Compensatory Syndrome
are fractures due to closed trauma (69% of cases), when the compartment pressure
increases, a decrease in the arteriovenous gradient occurs at the capillary level, due to
an increase in the postcapillary vascular pressure. As a result there is a greater
hydrostatic pressure, fluid passage to the interstitial space, nervous and muscular
ischemia and increased edema and pressure. The objectives of the treatment are to
prevent contracture, functional disability and loss of limbs or life, with decompressive
fasciotomy being the treatment of choice.
