➢ PROYECTO INNOVADOR

DISCUSIONES
ABSTRACT
In this work a method was developed to identify and evaluate areas with wind potential in
Colombia. Environmental, technical and economic standards are established, and feasibility
indicators are proposed for the regional development of wind energy. The proposed method is
applied to the department of Santander located in the Mesa de los Santos region. The results show
that a large part of the total area of the department can be used to develop wind energy projects.
KEY WORDS:
Project, Wind farms, Development mechanism, Wind turbines, Renewable energy.
INTRODUCTION
The growing concern to climate change, accelerating energy demand, price fluctuations
and the final problem of fossil fuel supply, as well as the policies implemented by several countries,
have promoted the development of alternative renewable energy sources. Energy demand
projections in Colombia and the world estimate that it will be increasingly higher (Colombian
Ministry of Mines and Energy, 2015). Currently, fossil fuels account for 78.4% of total global
energy consumption, nuclear energy for 2.3% and renewable energy sources for 19.3% (REN 21,
2017). In addition, the use of traditional fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas or coal can lead to
global warming, mainly caused by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Therefore, the
implementation of energy generation projects should start from renewable natural resources that
allow increasing the installed capacity of firm energy and help to decrease the emission of GHG
into the atmosphere.
1. Final objective
To implement the creation and start-up of a wind farm in Santander as a clean development
mechanism.
2. Characteristics
The 18 MW wind farm would allow covering the demand of the Mesa de los Santos
Municipality according to the demand levels foreseen for the year 2025.
For CDM project processing purposes, the responsible party or promoter must fill out the
official CDM project form or project document, according to the (Climate Change Convention
Secretariat, 2002): a) 3:
5. Environmental impacts
Wind farms usually occupy a lot of space and are located in natural landscapes that
transform the original landscape. Prior environmental impact studies are necessary to avoid
damage to migratory birds or the landscape. There is an impact on flora and fauna, visual and
acoustic impact due to the noise generated by the wind turbines and emissions in the manufacture
and transport of materials, construction, maintenance and de-installation of generators.
RESULTS
Data analysis process is performed, where information can be collected, experimental work
can be done, a series of good results can be obtained, some conclusions can be drawn, all of which
can be collected in reports, databases and finally applied to the project.
CONCLUSIONS
A hybrid wind-solar park with a total nominal power of 18 MW (14 and 4 MW,
respectively): It would have an average production that would almost double the current demand
of La Mesa de los Santos, allowing additional uses to the residential one: water cycle,
implementation of industries, etc. It would guarantee the green and sustainable character of the
entire region by covering its needs and generating surpluses exclusively with renewable energies.
INNOVATIVE PROJECT
Hybridization of solar and wind technology. Pioneer project in Latin America due to its
technical condition by combining two types of energy: wind and solar.
SUSTAINABLE PROJECT
Uses renewable energy sources. Coverage of the entire electricity demand of the region
with projected coverage until 2025.
TECHNICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE PROJECT
Project design based on real wind and solar radiation measurements. Support from the
Government of Santander and the Spanish Government. Economic feasibility with the current
electricity prices and initial public subsidy Feasible installation with current technology
DISCUSSIONS
Search for development technologies to collect data and make its proper interpretation and
make a study of such data through graphs, all mentioned so that an update is made instantly, in
addition to achieving a monitoring sequence. For this wind farm to work, the wind resource should
be examined both day and night in order to make a comparison of its behavior and thus be able to
verify the feasibility and make an improvement of energy with solar-wind hybrid systems.
