Introduccin:
En esta leccin practicaremos el uso y estructura gramatical del tiempo: PAST
PERFECT.
Recordemos que una oracin en PAST PERFECT se utiliza para enfatizar que
algo ha sucedido en el pasado ANTES que otro suceso tambin en el paso.
Ejemplo:

La junta haba

comenzado
cuando yo llegue.

Observemos que hay dos acciones en pasado. Sin embargo, si queremos


enfatizar que una paso antes que la otra entonces debemos usar el PASADO
PERFECTO.

Para poder hacer oraciones en pasado perfecto debemos poner atencin a la


estructura:

The meeting had started when I arrived

The meeting hadnt started when I arrived


(La junta no haba empezado cuando yo llegue)

Como podemos observar siempre utilizamos el auxiliar:


el verbo en

had / hadnt

Para la PRIMERA ACTIVIDAD solamente identificaras las oraciones que se


encuentran en pasado perfecto al igual que las que se encuentran en pasado
simple. Subraya con rojo los verbos escritos en pasado perfecto y con azul
aquellos que estn escritos en pasado simple.

ACTIVITY 1
Underline the past perfect verb forms with red and the simple past verbs with
blue in the following sentences:
I had never seen such a beautiful beach before I went to Kauai.
I did not have any money because I had lost my wallet.
Tony knew Istanbul so well because he had visited the city several
times.
Had Susan ever studied Thai before she moved to Thailand?
She only understood the movie because she had read the book.
Kristine had never been to an opera before last night.
We were not able to get a hotel room because we had not booked in
advance.
A: Had you ever visited the U.S. before your trip in 2006?

B: Yes, I had been to the U.S. once before.

En la SEGUNDA ACTIVIDAD, practicaremos la estructura de este tiempo. Es


decir HAD + PAST PARTICIPLE. Para eso, debers contestar el ejercicio que
viene a continuacin completando las oraciones en PAST PERFECT. Escribe con
rojo el auxiliar HAD y con verde el verbo en PARTICIPIO.

ACTIVITY 2
Complete the following exercise using the verb in the correct form to
make sentences in PAST PERFECT. Write the auxiliary HAD with red and
the verb in past participle with green.

Put the verbs into the correct form (past perfect simple).
1. The storm destroyed the sandcastle that we (build) _______________

Para la LTIMA ACTIVIDAD vas a leer una historia que contiene una serie de
eventos en pasado. Lee la historia con atencin y contesta los dos ejercicios
que vienen a continuacin, en tu cuaderno.

ACTIVITY 3
Read the story below and complete the two exercises in your notebook.
Where were they? What happened? What had they done?
Last night, Dane and Emily danced in a competition. They danced a salsa
dance. They had practiced for 6 months before they danced in the
competition. They were very good. Dane and Emily's friends were in the
audience. Before that night, they had never seen Dane and Emily dance. In
fact, Dane and Emily had never danced in front of anyone before the
competition. After everyone had danced, the judges announced the winners.
Dane and Emily won! They were the best dancers in the competition. Emily
said she had never practiced so hard before! She was glad they had practiced
a lot.

A. Answer the following questions. Use the Past Perfect tense.
