theoretical purposes, in isolation from each other, by theorists with divergent interests. The
thesis of the present paper, however, is that tropes and frames are constructs of the same
kind, and normally operate interdependently as complementary levels of the same
composite cultural representations. I argue, furthermore, that the interdependence of
frames and tropes is integral to the understanding of how complex social and cultural
forms such as ritual or political demonstrations generate power that can be projected
beyond the frame in which the actions that produce the power take place, to cause effects in
other frames.

y/o poderes elaborados en el ritual para efectuar cambios dentro del marco de
la realidad social secular. El poder para efectuar esas transformaciones y
cambios entre marcos procede, sin embargo, en ltimo trmino, de las
acciones de los actores rituales, en tanto construyen y animan el marco ritual,
con sus elementos constituyentes simblicos y trpicos, como una etapa para
la objetivacin de sus propias acciones. Es su actividad intencionalmente
dirigida como actores rituales lo que energiza y posibilita las formas de
intencionalidad, codificadas en los marcos, y el juego trpico de la actuacin
ritual como fuerzas objetivas efectivas, capaces de separarse del marco de la
propia actuacin y rehacer o cambiar el mundo profano exterior. El anlisis
formal de la accin ritual como una interaccin dialctica del juego de tropos
y el juego de marcos converge, de ese modo, con el anlisis del ritual como
actividad enmarcada, auto-objetivante, destacada en la parte anterior de este
artculo.
