JAMAICA
QUE ES
Port Royal fue una Isla situada en
Jamaica, a 24 kilómetros de Kingston,
su capital.
Inicialmente fue colonizado por los
españoles, pero fue atacado y capturado
por los ingleses en 1655. Port Royal se
convirtió rápidamente en un refugio
importante para piratas y bucaneros.

Pronto se hizo evidente que Port Royal
era el lugar perfecto para particulares y
corsarios. Tenía un gran puerto natural
de aguas profundas para proteger los
barcos anclados, y estaba cerca de las
rutas y puertos de embarque españoles.

La ciudad se conservó bajo el agua
prácticamente intacta, ya que no se
trataba de una ciudad abandonada ni
deteriorada, sino que fue víctima del
desastre en pleno esplendor.
LA ANTIGUA ALEJANDRIA
Ciudad del norte de Egipto, situada en el
delta del río Nilo, y el principal puerto del
país. Fue fundada por Alejandro Magno en
el año 332, en una fértil región, con una
estratégica situación portuaria,
convirtiéndose pocos años después en el
centro cultural del mundo antiguo.
El arquitecto que realizó esta obra se llamaba Dinócrates
de Rodas. La construcción del dique conformó dos
puertos, a ambos lados: el Gran puerto, hacia el este, el
más importante; el Puerto del buen regreso, al oeste,
que es el que continúa utilizándose en la actualidad.
