El cordón umbilical es un cordón o un conducto

flexible que une al feto con la placenta el
cual es su única fuente de oxigeno y
nutrientes.
Tiene una longitud de 156 ctms.

FUNCION DE EL C
El cordón umbilical es indispensable para el
desarrollo del embarazo, es el encargado de
transportar, desde la placenta y a través de las
dos arterias umbilicales, la sustancias nutritivas
y la sangra rica en oxigeno que el feto necesita
para su desarrollo.
La arteria umbilical es la encargada de
transportar la sangre en dirección contraria,
hacia la placenta, con el dióxido de carbono y
los productos de desecho.

 Función endocrina
en la placenta se sintetizan una serie de hormonas y
factores de crecimiento esenciales tanto para el
metabolismo del feto como de la madre. Destaca, por
ejemplo, la hormona denominada gonadotrofina crónica,
que es fundamental para la evolución del embarazo.
Asimismo, produce estrógenos y otras hormonas sexuales
femeninas, esenciales para la implantación definitiva del
embrión en la pared del útero, para la preparación de las
mamas y el desarrollo del lactógeno placentario, cuya
función, además de estimular el crecimiento del feto, es
muy importante para el metabolismo de la madre, con el
fin de que su cuerpo se adapte a la evolución del
embarazo.
 Lactógeno placentario
El lactógeno placentario humano (hPL) o
somatomamotropina.
Su función consiste en modificar el
metabolismo de las mujeres durante el
embarazo para facilitar el aporte de energía
al feto.
Esta hormona descompone grasas de la
madre para brindarle energía al bebe en
crecimiento
 Gonadotropina Coriónica humana?

La gonadotropina coriónica humana (GCH), más conocida

por sus siglas en inglés hCG o, incluso, coloquialmente por
“la beta”, es una glucoproteína sintetizada en las células del
trofoblasto embrionario. En concreto, la hormona hCG es
producida por el sincitiotrofoblasto.

La hCG está formada por dos cadenas distintas, una alfa (α)
y otra beta (ß). La cadena beta es exclusiva de la hormona
hCG; mientras que la subunidad alfa es idéntica a la
hormona luteinizante (LH), foliculoestimulante (FSH) y
hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH).
 Las pruebas de embarazo se basan en
detectar la hCG. El motivo es que la
presencia de esta hormona, al ser
producida por el embrión, confirma la
gestación. Además, estas pruebas detectan
la subunidad beta de la hCG y, por esta
razón, al periodo de espera para la
confirmación del embarazo se le llama
comúnmente betaespera
 ¿Cuál es la función de la
hormona hCG?
La hormona hCG tiene como objetivo favorecer la
funcionalidad del cuerpo lúteo, que son los restos
del folículo ovárico tras la ovulación. El cuerpo
lúteo secreta progesterona y, la hCG producida por
el propio embrión, es un indicativo para que
mantenga la secreción de progesterona hasta que la
placenta se pueda ocupar de esta labor.

Por el contrario, en el caso de que no haya ocurrido un

embarazo, la ausencia de hCG provoca que el
cuerpo lúteo degenere, lo que finalmente
desencadena la menstruación.
 La hCG también podría
intervenir en el desarrollo de
la inmunotolerancia materna
y, por tanto, impedir el
rechazo inmunológico del
embrión por parte de la
madre durante el primer
periodo de la gestación
 ¿Por qué es útil detectar la hormona
hCG?
La hCG es conocida por ser la hormona del embarazo,
ya que esta hormona es producida por el embrión.
Por tanto, si se detecta esta hormona en la orina o en
la sangre de una mujer, es indicativo de que está
embarazada.

Además, la valoración de la beta hCG libre está

incluida, junto con otros parámetros como la
translucencia nucal, en el triple screening. Este
cribado se realiza en el primer trimestre de embarazo
y sirve para evaluar el riesgo de ciertas alteraciones
cromosómicas, como el síndrome de Down.

en el parto, pero también al resto del esqueleto.
Esto provoca que la embarazada este menos estable y
sea mas propensa a sufrir contracturas o
estiramientos en algún musculo. Sobre todo en la
pelvis, la parte baja de la espalda y las rodillas. En
esas articulaciones se puede producir también
dislocación articular
