Abstract
In this paper we analyze the magnitude of the relationship between initial math skills and different
variables of motivation and executive functioning. We evaluated 46 subjects in their final year of primary
education in the province of Castellón. We used: a specific test for the evaluation of basic math skills,
different clinical tests of inhibition, short-term memory and working memory and motivation
questionnaire for teachers. The results show important relationships between different variables. The
results confirm that both motivational variables such as executive functioning measures have significant
predictive power on basic math skills in this educational stage.
