La dama tapada

La dama tapada es un personaje de una leyenda de la creencia popular ecuatoriana. Según la

tradición, la historia ocurrió cerca del año 1700, y varias personas murieron a causa de la Dama.
Leyenda: Se dice que la Dama Tapada, es un ser de origen desconocido que se aparecía en horas
cercanas a la medianoche a las personas que frecuentaban callejones no muy concurridos. Según
las historias relatadas por muchas personas acerca de estos acontecimientos, una extraña joven se
les aparecía, vistiendo un elegante vestido de la época, con sombrilla, pero algo muy particular
en ella era que llevaba su rostro tapado con un velo, el cual no permitía que las víctimas la
reconocieran.
Al estar cerca de la Dama, se dice que despedía a su entorno una fragancia agradable y, por ello,
casi todos los que la veían quedaban impactados al verla y estar cerca de ella. Hacía señales para
que la siguiesen y, en trance, las víctimas accedían a la causa, pero ella no permitía que se les
acercara lo suficiente. Así, los alejaba del centro urbano y en lugares remotos empezaba a
detenerse. Posteriormente, cuando las víctimas se le acercaban a descubrirle el rostro, un olor
nauseabundo contaminaba el ambiente y, al ver su rostro, apreciaban un cadáver aún en proceso
de putrefacción, el cual tenía unos ojos que parecían destellantes bolas de fuego.
La mayoría de las víctimas morían, algunos por el susto y otros por la pestilente fragancia que
emanaba el espectro al transformarse. Muy pocos sobrevivían y en la cultura popular los
llamaban tunantes.
Desde aquellos acontecimientos, hay quienes dicen que posteriormente aun transita por los
callejones por las noches.

many people about these events, a strange young appeared them, wearing an elegant dress of the

the spectrum to be transformed. Very few survived and called them truancy in popular culture.
Since those events, there are those who say that later still it passes through the alleys at night.
