Acorde a la información de Los Ángeles Times, La Catrina nace desde la civilización azteca con
Mictecacihuatl, la diosa de la muerte. La leyenda de Mictecacihua cuenta que ella guardaba los
huesos de los muertos porque podrían utilizarse.

Con los años, La Catrina se convirtió en un ícono del Día de Muertos. Sus ilustraciones la
describen como una mujer que vista de manera fina, un sombrero y vestido largo.

El primer artista en utilizar a La Catrina como parte de sus obras fue José Guadalupe Posada
en el Siglo XIX, llamándola "La Calavera Garbancera". No obstante, el muralista Diego Rivera
