Resumen:
Coagulation disorders remain a challenge in dental practice due to their impact on haemostasis
during dental procedures. This case inquires into the most common disorders, such as
hemophilia, von Willebrand's disease and platelet disorders, and emphasizes the importance of
careful and personalized treatment to guarantee a safe and effective management.
The case reported of a 26-year-old male patient who attended the dentist's department with pain
and swelling in the right posterior region of the jaw. A partially erupted third molar was visible
in a horizontal position. Surgical extraction was executed and the patient was given postoperative
care instructions. Shortly afterwards the patient returned to the clinic with persistent bleeding.
Immediate control measures were taken to control the bleeding and the patient was referred to a
hematology specialist for further evaluation. Additional evaluations were performed and the
patient was confirmed to have hemophilia A.
Successful management of patients with coagulation disorders requires careful examination and
additional precautions before, during and after dental procedures. Collaboration between the
dentist and hematologist is essential for a safe and effective approach. The case presented
emphasizes the relevance of a complete medical history evaluation and early detection of
coagulation disorders in patients attending the dental appointment.
