El past continuous se define como el tiempo verbal que nos da a conocer

situaciones del pasado en las que su duración es relevante y no se dan por

terminadas. La clave para reconocerlo es cuando el verbo principal de la oración
tiene la terminación -ing (-ando -endo en español) y se encuentra acompañado de
los verbos auxiliares was o were.

Oraciones afirmativas
 He was playing the piano when the bell rang = Él estaba tocando el piano
cuando sonó la campana
 On July 18 we were dancing and singing = El 18 de julio estábamos
bailando y cantand
 Ana was filming a new movie and a short film at the same time = Ana estaba
filmando una nueva película y un cortometraje al mismo tiempo
 They were hunting without a license = Ellos estaban cazando sin licencia
 5 years ago I was practicing English for the IELTS test = Hace 5 años
estaba practicando inglés para el examen IELTS
 All the children were reading when the bird hit the window = Todos los niños
estaban leyendo cuando el pájaro golpeó la ventana
 She was cleaning the floor while he was playing outside = Ella estaba

Oraciones Negativas
 She was not playing violin because she had a broken hand = Ella no estaba
tocando el violín porque tenía una mano rota
 We were not living together that year = Nosotros no estábamos viviendo
juntos ese año
 I was not crying for you = No estaba llorando por ti
 They were not playing in that championship  = Ellos no estaban jugando en
ese campeonato
 He was not studying English in 1997 = Él no estaba estudiando inglés en
1997
 Daniel and John were not burning the place, it was an accident = Daniel y
John no estaban quemando el lugar, fue un accidente
 I was not expecting the results of the IELTS = No estaba esperando los
resultados del IELTS
Oraciones interrogativas
 Was she drinking alcohol before the accident? = ¿Ella estaba bebiendo

 Were they swimming in the river at midnight? = ¿Estaban ellos nadando en
