How and when to use Imperative sentences

(Como y cuando usar Oraciones imperativas)

Se utiliza para dar, comando, ordenes, indicaciones / primera-
segunda persona

El imperativo  se forma con el infinitivo del verbo sin “to”.

Ejemplo:

“call me soon” (llámame pronto), se forma del infinitivo: to call, sin “to”.

Cada verbo tiene una única forma de imperativo, que se utiliza tanto para
la segunda persona del singular como para la segunda persona del plural
(you)

Ejemplo: Oraciones +

Please, eat here (Come aquí / Coman aquí)

Speak English, please (Habla ingles / Hablen ingles, por favor)

Be kind to people (Se amable con la gente)

Practice much more (Practica mucho más)

Try it one more time (Inténtalo otra vez).

Give him a chance (Dale una oportunidad).

Ejemplo: Oraciones –

La negación del imperativo de forma anteponiendo “do not” o “don’t”

antes del verbo en infinitivo.

Please, do not / don´t eat here (Por favor, no coma acá / no coman acá)

Do not / don´t speak English, please (No hables ingles/ No hablen

ingles, por favor)

Please, No smoking (Por favor, no fumar)

Please, do not smoke (Por favor, no fume)

Do not use mobile phones (No use telefonos moviles)

Do not (don´t) be rude (No seas grosero (a))

No running wet floor (No correr, piso mojado)

Don’t open the door (No abra la puerta).

Otra forma de formar el imperativo es utilizando el verbo auxiliar “let”, y en

ese caso se utiliza para la primera persona del plural (We)

Ejemplo: Oraciones +

Let’s buy a car. (Compremos un auto).

Please, Let´s eat here (Por favor, Comamos aqui)

Let´s speak English, Please (hablemos ingles, Por favor)

Let´s talk about it (Hablemos de eso)

Let’s go play outside (Vayamos a jugar afuera).

Ejemplo: Oraciones -
Please, Let´s not eat here (Por favor, No comamos aqui)

Let´s not speak English, please (No hablemos ingles, por favor)

Let´s not close the door (No cerremos la puerta)

Let´s not fight more (No peleemos más)

Let´s not make the things harder (No hagamos las cosas mas dificiles)

En las oraciones imperativas no se necesita sujeto.

Puede agregarse un sujeto para aclarar a quién se está hablando. En ese

caso, después del sujeto se escribe coma.

Ejemplo:

John, follow me please. (John, sígueme por favor).

Para dar un tono más amable a las oraciones imperativas suele agregarse
“please” (por favor), al inicio o al final de la oración.

EJEMPLOS DE ORACIONES IMPERATIVAS

Please, call me when you get home. / Por favor, llámame cuando llegues.

Turn the volume up, this is my favorite song. / Sube el volumen, esta es mi
canción favorita.

Slow down! / ¡Más despacio!

Let’s play cards. / Juguemos a las cartas.

Don’t laugh, this is serious. / No te rías, esto es serio.

Turn off the lights before you leave, please. / Apague las luces antes de irse
por favor.

Keep the windows close at all times. / Mantener las ventanas cerradas todo el
tiempo.

Watch your step. / Cuidado al pisar.

Pass the salt. / Pásame la sal.

Please, help me find my keys. / Por favor ayúdame a encontrar mis llaves.

Don’t talk during class. / No hablen durante la clase.

Please don’t leave your toys on the floor. / Por favor no dejen sus juguetes en
el suelo.

Play another song. / Toca otra canción.

Don’t watch that movie, it’s not for children. / No mires esa película, no es
para niños.

Stay where I can see you. / Quédate donde pueda verte.

Don’t touch that, it’s hot. / No toques eso, está caliente.

Tell me if you need anything. / Dime si necesitas algo.

Bring your own bag. / Traiga su propia bolsa.

Enjoy your meal. / Disfruta tu comida.

Sit down. / Siéntate.

Turn the tv off. / Apaga el televisor.

Stand up. / Póngase de pie.

Don’t worry. / No te preocupes.

Hurry up. / Apúrate.

Don’t stay up too late. / No te quedes despierto hasta tarde.

Go through the main entrance. / Vaya por la entranda principal.

Write down everything you remember. / Anote todo lo que recuerde.

Have some cake. / Toma un poco de pastel.

Stop running if you feel tired. / Dejen de correr si se sienten cansados.

Please be careful. / Por favor tengan cuidado.

Cover the wound with a bandage. / Cubra la herida con una venda.

Follow the instructions. / Siga las instrucciones.

Don’t forget your coat. / No olvides tu abrigo.

Speak louder, please. / Hable más alto por favor.

Wait here, please. / Espere aquí por favor.

Call the waitress when you are ready to order. / Llame a la camarera cuando

Please, repeat the question. / Por favor, repita la pregunta.

teléfonos durante el espectáculo.

Don’t be rude to him. / No seas grosero con él.

Tell me all about it. / Cuéntamelo todo.

Call this number. / Llame a este número.

Stay tuned. / Continúe sintonizado.

responda las preguntas.

Don’t leave children unattended. / No deje a los niños solos.
