Vacaciones en la granja
Vacations at the Farm
Era una bonita tarde, papá estaba en la computadora cuando One nice afternoon, Dad was using the computer when
Andrea se acercó... Andrea approached him and asked:
-¿Qué haces papá?- preguntó. –Dad, what are you doing?
-Le escribo a tu tía para avisarle que vamos a su casa- –I’m writing to your aunt to tell her we will go visit her –
contestó el papá. answered Dad.
-¿Le escribes en la computadora?- volvió a preguntar Andrea. –Do you write to her on the computer? –Andrea asked
again.
-Sí, por e-mail: es una carta que yo escribo y la mando para
que tu tía la lea en su computadora- explicó su papá. –Yes, I’m sending her an email. I type a letter here and
I send it to her so she can read it on her computer –
-¡Guau!- exclamó la niña. answered Dad.
–Wow! –exclaimed Andrea.

-¿Puedo escribirle a mi tía yo

también?- preguntó Andrea,
ansiosa.
-¡Claro!- respondió su papá.

-Yo te ayudo...- se escuchó la voz de
Diego, su hermano.
–Can I also write to my aunt? –

asked Andrea.
–Sure! –said Dad.
–I can help you! –said Diego,

Andrea’s brother.

Luego de un rato, el papá vio que sus

hijos habían dejado unas sorpresillas
en la computadora; los llamó y les
preguntó:
-¿Ven algo raro por aquí?
After a while, Dad noticed that Andrea

and Diego had left some “tiny surprises”
lying around the computer. He called them
both and asked:
–Do you see anything different here?

-No es bueno que coman o beban cerca

de la computadora. ¿Qué pasaría si algo
se cae sobre ella?. Además, la dejaron
encendida...- reprendió el papá.
-No volverá a suceder, papá...- dijo

Diego.
–It is not allowed to eat or drink

anything anywhere near the
computer. Imagine what would
happen if you accidentally dropped
food or liquid on it. Besides, you left
the computer on –said Dad scolding
them.
–It won’t happen again, Dad –said

Diego.

La voz de mamá se escuchó:
-¡Papá! ¡Niños! Vengan a

preparar sus maletas...
Mom’s voice was heard:
–Dad! Kids! Please come to

pack your bags!

Rápidamente, el papá y los niños apagaron la computadora y Dad and the children turned the computer off quickly and
cada quien se dirigió a su recámara. ran to their bedrooms.
-¿Y qué ropa puedo llevar, mamá?- preguntó Andrea. –What clothes can I pack, Mom? –asked Andrea.

Muy temprano, al día siguiente, el papá

dijo:
-Es hora de irnos, ¿ya todos tienen lista su

maleta?
Todos asintieron y papá volvió a decir:
-Muy bien, suban sus cosas a la camioneta,

mientras reviso que todo haya quedado
cerrado y apagado.
Early next day, Dad said:
–It’s time to go! Does everybody have

their bags ready? –and everyone
nodded. Dad said again:
–Well, then! Put your things inside the Van

while I make sure everything inside the house
is locked, turned off and closed.

Una vez en la camioneta, se dirigieron a

la carretera, y después de varias horas
de camino, los niños se encontraban
aburridos; el papá los vio y les dijo:
-¿Por qué no cuentan autos por colores?
-¡Buena idea!- exclamó Diego,

entusiasmado.
Once everyone was inside the Van,

they hit the road; Dad drove for
hours. Andrea and Diego were bored.
Dad noticed this and said:
–Why don’t you count cars by their

colors?
–Great idea! –answered Diego

enthusiastically.

Un rato después, se encontraban cerca Some hours later, near the farm, Mom

-Llegaremos muy pronto... -We will be there soon.
-¿Cómo sabes?-preguntó Diego. –How do you know? –asked Diego.

Al llegar a la granja, la tía los recibió

muy contenta.
-¡Hola! ¿Qué tal el viaje? Se ven

cansados y con hambre, que tal si
se lavan las manos y nos sentamos
a comer mientras platicamos, ¿eh?-
sugirió la tía.
-Muy bien- dijo el papá.
Their aunt was very happy to see them

when they arrived to the farm.
–Hello! How was your trip? You look

tired and hungry. How about you
wash your hands and then we can
eat something as we talk, huh? –
their aunt suggested.
–Great! –said Dad.

Al terminar de comer, la tía dijo a los

niños:
-Descansen un rato,
para que me
acompañen a dar
de comer a los
animales.
When they
finished eating,
their aunt said:
–Rest for a little

while, so you can help
me feed the animals.

La noche llegó, Diego y Andrea se fueron

a dormir y soñaban con lo que habían hecho
durante el día.
When the night came, Andrea and Diego went

to bed and dreamt about what they had done
during the day.

Al día siguiente, la tía los levantó muy temprano. The next day, their aunt woke them up very early.
-Vamos niños, porque después de desayunar iremos –Hurry up kids, we have to go to the veterinarian
por el veterinario- comentó. after we have breakfast –she said.
-¿Por el veterinario?- preguntó Andrea. –To the veterinarian? –Andrea asked.
-Sí, hoy es día de vacunas...- explicó la tía. –Yes, today is shots’ day –their aunt said.
-¡Nooo!- gritaron asustados los niños. –No! –exclaimed the kids all scared.

-No se preocupen, hoy

solo vacunarán a los
animales de cuatro
patas- dijo la tía para
que sus sobrinos se
tranquilizaran.
–Don’t you worry. Today’s

shots are only injected in
four-legged animals –said
their aunt to help the kids
calm down.

Más tarde, los niños preguntaron: Later, the kids asked:
-¿Qué más vamos a hacer hoy, tía? Te queremos –What else are we going to do today?, we want to
ayudar. help you.
-Vamos a recoger la fruta que se ha caído de los –We will pick all the fruit that has fallen from these
árboles, la pondremos en estas canastas y luego trees and put it inside these baskets. Then, we will
haremos un rico coctel con chilito...- dijo la tía. use the fruit to prepare a delicious and spicy fruit

Esa noche, los niños comentaban sus

experiencias antes de dormirse.

That night, the kids shared their

experiences before they fell asleep.
–Today was fun! But I’m very tired, Diego –

said Andrea.
–Me too, I want it to be tomorrow already!

Muy temprano al otro día, Andrea se

quejaba:
-¡Uuy! ¡Ay! Me duele la panza...
-Ha de ser porque ayer comiste mucho

picante en la cena. Ven, te prepararé un
té y, si se te apetece, un emparedado de
jamón...- dijo su mamá.
Very early the next day, Andrea

complained:
–Ouch, ouch! My stomach hurts! –

Andrea said.
–Maybe it is because your dinner

was too spicy. Come with me, I’ll
give you some tea, and if you want,
a ham sandwich –said Mom.

Then, Dad said: Luego, el papá comentó:
–Don’t worry, Andrea; we are going back home today, if you -No te preocupes Andrea, hoy regresamos a casa y, si te
still feel bad, we can take you to the doctor. sigues sintiendo mal, iremos al doctor.
–But I’m having so much fun! I don’t want to leave –said -Pero me he divertido mucho y no quiero irme...- comentó
Diego, a bit sad. Diego un poco triste.
–Me neither! I promise my stomach won’t hurt again –said -¡Yo tampoco!, te prometo que ya no me va a doler mi
Andrea. pancita!- dijo Andrea.
–Don’t you worry. We can come back next vacation –said -No se preocupen, podemos regresar en las próximas
Dad. vacaciones- explicó el papá.

En eso, llegó la mamá y les dijo:
-Antes de irnos y de que se pongan tristes, les mostraré algo que su tía nos acaba de regalar.
-¿Qué es mamá?- preguntaron los niños ansiosos.
-Es un perrito, y se llama “Peluches”...- explicó la mamá.
-¡Qué bonito!- exclamó Diego.
-¡Lo cuidaremos muy bien...!- dijo Andrea

inmediatamente.
Todos empacaron, se despidieron y volvieron a casa; el

viaje había terminado.
Then Mom came in and said:
–Before we leave and you kids get all gloomy, I want to

show you a gift your aunt just gave us.
–What is it, Mom? –asked the kids anxiously.
–It’s a puppy, and its name is Fluffy –said

Mom.
–How cute! –said Diego.
–We’ll take good care of it –said Andrea

right away.
Everyone packed their bags, said goodbye and

went back home. The trip was over.
