La oficina de papá

Dad’s office

Era un día nublado, todos desayunaban en casa cuando una

idea pasó por la cabecita de Ale: mamá iría con el doctor y
papá a trabajar pero, ¿qué haría ella? ¿Se quedaría solita
en casa?

- Ahora que mamá va al doctor, ¿me voy a quedar

solita en la casa?- preguntó afligida la niña.

- No Ale, irás conmigo a trabajar- contestó el

papá. Te llevaré a mi oficina y me ayudarás con
cosillas, ¿te parece?

-¡Yupi!- Exclamó Ale.

It was a cloudy day. Everyone was having

breakfast when some ideas came to Ale’s head:
considering that Mom was going to the doctor’s,
and Dad would go to work, she wondered what
she was going to do. Was she just going to stay
home on her own?

–Since Mom will be at the doctor’s, am I going

to stay home alone? –Ale asked in distress.

–No, dear. You will come to work with me –said

Dad–, I will take you to my office and you will
help me do some stuff here and there. How would
you like that?

–Yay! –replied Ale.

Después de un rato de estar sentada frente a su papá observando lo que

hacía, Ale empezó a dormirse. Entonces, su papá le encargó unas tareas.

- Ale, no te duermas, mejor ven a ayudarme... - dijo su papá.

After spending some time just sitting across the desk

Luego de mucho trabajar, Ale fue por un vaso con

agua, pero en el camino se encontró con algo
muy divertido...

-¿Qué haces?- preguntó al diseñador.

- Estoy iluminando unos dibujos- le

respondió.

-¡Qué padre! ¿Te puedo ayudar?-

preguntó Ale.

- Claro, ven y siéntate junto a mí-.

After so much work, Ale went to get

a glass of water; but on her way, she
came across something really fun…

–What are you doing? –Ale asked the

designer.

–I am coloring some drawings –he replied.

–How nice! Can I help? –Ale asked.

–Sure, come and sit next to me.

De regreso a la oficina On her way back to Dad’s

- ¡Parece un ratón chiquito!- comentó Ale.

- Sí, y este es un CPU- terminó la secretaria de explicar.

- ¿Un qué?- preguntó la niña.

- Un CPU es una caja que guarda todo lo que yo hago- respondió la

secretaria pacientemente.

–A computer? –Ale asked in awe.

–Yes, you see. This thing here is called monitor, it looks like a TV
screen, but it isn’t. This is the keyboard, I can type with it and
do many other things. This thing here is the mouse, it also helps
me get my chores done…

–It does look like a little mouse! –suggested Ale.

- ¿Y para qué sirven todos estos?- volvió

a preguntar Ale.

- Son cables, sirven para conectar la

computadora a la luz y así podamos
prenderla - le respondió la secretaria.

- ¿A ver..?- y la niña se acercó a los

cables.

- ¡No, Ale! Es muy peligroso, con los cables

no se juega, podría darte un toque- dijo la
secretaria reprendiéndola.

–And what are these ones for? –Ale inquired

again.

–These are cables: we use them to plug

the computer to the power source so that
we can turn it on –said the secretary.

–Let me see! –said Ale, as she reached

out for the cables.

–No Ale!, that’s very dangerous, you

don’t play with the cables, you could get an
electric shock! –warned the secretary.

that? –said her dad’s secretary.

–Rattle is a turtle that your father

keeps in his office –said the
secretary.

- ¿Le puedo dar yo de comer?- preguntó Ale. –Can I feed it? –Ale asked.

- Claro- dijo la secretaria. –Sure! –the secretary replied.

- En mi lonchera traigo galletitas y jugo- comentó Ale. –I’ve got cookies and some juice in my lunch box –Ale stated.

- Me parece muy bien, pero las tortugas no comen eso, –That’s very good, but turtles don’t eat those things. It might

De pronto se oyó la voz del papá:

-Bien, Ale. Despídete y vamos a

- ¿Y mi mamá?- preguntó la niña.

- La veremos allá- contestó el

papá.

Suddenly, Dad’s voice was

heard:

–Well, Ale, say goodbye and

let’s go home; it’s lunch time –he
pointed.

–And where’s Mom? –Ale asked.

–We’ll meet her there –Dad replied.

Luego de despedirse, Ale y su papá subieron al auto. Mientras se dirigían a casa,

Ale pensaba todo lo que había hecho y conocido en la oficina de papá.

After Ale and her dad said goodbye, they got into the car. On their way home, Ale
was evoking in her head everything she had done and all the people she had met in
Dad’s office.
