Very interesting, (The Queen's Gambit) both from a pure entertainment

point of view
and as a chess player, it also made me proud
in the sense that the chess was done very well and correctly in almost every
way.
So I loved it!
Because that's been one of the real compliments of the series
is that for people who really are ingrained in chess
that it was very true to the game.
What about your experience, as playing chess as a child,
which is very similar to that in The Queen's Gambit
were there any similarities in your story to hers?
I think there were some similarities in that
I was also playing against adults at a fairly young age
and clearly they're not going to believe that you have the strength
immediately.
But I very much recognize the culture in the sense that
once people understand that you can play well
then the moves sort of speak for you.

And I loved to see that in the series that Beth

immediately got the respect of all the seasoned chess players.
Once they they understood that she could play
despite her age and lack of experience.
So that was really great to say and it mirrors my own experience as well
And one experience that is course di erent is that she's a female
have you seen a shift in the number of female players over the last few
years
and do you think this might help bring more women into the game?
I think she can certainly be a role model
for women and girls who want to play chess.
I would say that in general overall chess has not been that kind to women.
I don't believe there are any like underlying genetic circumstances or
anything
that should make men better players... but as I said
the environment has not been great towards towards women.
I certainly hope this will help and from my experience
traveling around the world I've seen that in at a young age
there's really not that much of a di erence between boys and girls
like girls are as fascinated and as interested in chess as boys are
so hopefully this will spark a bit of a revival there.
