The Verb ​GUSTAR + an action/verb

a. ​Gustar ​(to please) is used to express “to like.”

Me gusta ​la comida. ​I like the food. ( ​Literally: ​The food pleases me.)
Te ​gustan ​las manzanas. ​You like the apples. ( ​Literally: ​The apples please you.)
Nos gusta ​jugar a las damas. ​We like to play checkers. (​ ​To play checkers pleases us.)

NOTE: If the thing liked is not a noun but an action, always use “gusta”; don’t add an “n”. Then write
the verb as an infinitive (without dropping the “r”).

Me gusta ​leer y escribir. ​I like to read and write.

c. ​To clarify or emphasize to whom something is pleasing, add “A mi”, “A ti”, ect. .

A mí me gusta ​ir al cine. I like to go to the movie theatre.

A ti te gusta ​bailar mucho.
