EDWARD TAYLOR

Biografía:

Él fue un poeta norteamericano nacido en Inglaterra en 1644 y muerto en 1729 en

Estados Unidos. Emigró desde Inglaterra a Boston en 1668 y estudio Divinidad en
Harvard, él sabía hablar griego, latín y hebreo. Se casó dos veces, primero con Elizabeth
Fitch, que tuvo ocho hijos, cinco de ellos murieron en la infancia, y la segunda esposa
Ruth Wyllys, que tuvo seis hijos más.

Edward trabajo como ministro en la ciudad de Westfield, Massachusetts y fue uno de los
hombres mejor educados de Nueva Inglaterra, que utiliza sus conocimientos, trabajando
como ministro de la ciudad, médico y líder cívico.

Sus poemas devocionales permanecieron en manuscritos por propio deseo y no fueron

publicados hasta 1937, cuando por fin se reconocieron su importancia para la historia de
la literatura americana, así como su gran calidad.

Biography:

He was an American poet born in England in 1644 and died in 1729 in the United States.
He emigrated from England to Boston in 1668 and studied Divinity at Harvard, he knew
how to speak Greek, Latin and Hebrew. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth Fitch, who
had eight children, five of whom died in infancy, and second wife Ruth Wyllys, who had six
more children.

Edward worked as a minister in the city of Westfield, Massachusetts and was one of the
best educated men in New England, who uses his knowledge, working as a city minister,
physician, and civic leader.

Edward Taylor's poetry was a poetry full of sweetness, in which he speaks of creation and
independence with a constant search for harmony. The meditations derive much of their
intensity from this theological background and from Taylor's sense of sacramental mystery.

His devotional poems remained in manuscripts of his own desire and were not published
until 1937, when their importance to the history of American literature was finally
recognized, as well as their high quality.
