F.R. Imataca and Forest Management Unit of INMADECA
La Reserva Forestal de Imataca se ubica al sureste de
Venezuela, en el estado Bolívar, en la denominado“Escudo
Guayanés”. Es una inmensa extensión de bosques
tropicales poco o nada intervenidos, que cubren una
superficie de 38.219 Km2. De las más grandes del planeta.
Creada por el Gobierno venezolano (Gaceta Oficial de la
República de Venezuela n° 26.478, de fecha 09 de febrero
de 1961) es uno de los bosques tropicales más estudiados
en el mundo. A partir del año 2004, la R.F. Imataca cuenta
con un “Plan de Ordenamiento y Reglamento de Uso”
(Decreto Presidencial n° 3.110, publicado en Gaceta Oficial
n° 38.028 de fecha 22 de septiembre de 2004)
Los estudios realizados confirman la utilidad de los
bosques de Imataca como productores de madera, siendo
factible su manejo racional bajo estricto criterio
técnico-científico y su aprovechamiento forestal
maderero y múltiple con las modernas técnicas de “Bajo
Impacto”.
Es así como el 22 de enero del presente año 2018,
“Industrias Madereras del Caroní c.a.” (INMADECA) procede
a protocolizar una “Alianza Comercial para el
Aprovechamiento Forestalde la Unidad de Manejo “Sur 3”
(S3) de la R.F. Imataca, suscrita con la autoridad nacional
en materia ambiental (Ministerio de Ecosocialismo y
Aguas; MINEA) y con el órgano rector nacional del sistema
de reservas forestales (Empresa Nacional Forestal s.a.;
ENAFOR) para ejercer la coadministración, manejo y
aprovechamiento comercial de dicha Unidad S3 por un
lapso de 25 años.
La Unidad de Manejo Sur 3 de Imataca posee una
extensión de 132.000 Hectáreas, casi toda cubierta de
bosques prístinos con la mayor riqueza maderera de toda
la R.F.
Nuestros estudios preliminares señalan la presencia en la
unidad de manejo Sur 3, de unas 228 especies forestales
que en conjunto poseen un volumen de rolas de 16,7
millones de metros cúbicos. Al menos 20 especies que
conforman una oferta de 2,15 millones de metros cúbicos
de rolas poseen interés o cualidad de exportación. De
estas últimas, describimos diez (10) en el presente folleto.
