Presentación
México es un país con una gran historia y una profunda riqueza cultural,
en cada uno de sus pueblos y ciudades se atesora el pasado, se disfruta
de la gente, de sus costumbres y tradiciones.

Tultepec es un municipio conocido como la Capital de la Pirotecnia

por ser uno de los productores más importantes de fuegos artificiales,
además es un lugar con un pasado milenario, en donde también se tuvo
la influencia de las grandes culturas del México antiguo y una marcada
herencia colonial, en el siglo XIX nació a la vida municipal con un gran
vigor en la música, la pirotecnia, las artes y un singular espíritu festivo que
le distinguen.

El Honorable Ayuntamiento de Tultepec 2019-2021 ofrece a nuestros

visitantes esta reseña de la historia y tradiciones de este pueblo, así como
una afectuosa bienvenida a nuestros hermanos del mundo.

Preface
Mexico is a land with a great history and a deep cultural wealth, in each
one of its towns and villages treasure the past, friendly people, traditions
and customs.

Tultepec is a municipality also known as Capital of Pyrotechnic for being

one of the most important fireworks producers, it’s also a place with
thousand years of history where besides it had an influence from the
greatest Mexico ancient’s cultures and a noticeable colonial legacy, in the
century XIX Tultepec was born in the way of music, pyrotechnic, arts and
it’s special spirit which it has been distinguished.

The Tultepec City Council 2019-2021 offers to our visitors this review
about history and traditions of this community, as well as a warm welcome
to our worldwide friends.

state, and in northern part of
Mexico City.

 Los orígenes
poblacionales
de esta localidad se remontan
al México antiguo, a los periodos
clásico (año 100 a 800 de
nuestra era) y posclásico
(año 800 a 1521), de esos
horizontes culturales datan los
asentamientos prehispánicos
de Imiquia o Inimiquia, Las
Palmas, El Terremote, Totola,
El Mogote y San Martín
Tzintongo cuyos vestigios se
hallan dispersos a lo largo
y ancho del antes islote
de Tlaxomulco, hoy Loma
Tultepec.
Estos sitios fueron habitados
por pobladores descendientes
de teotihuacanos, toltecas,
otomíes, chichimecas y mexicas,
que pertenecían y tributaban al
señorío de Xaltocan, al perder
éste el poder hegemónico de
la región, Tultepec pasó a
formar parte del señorío de
Cuautitlán durante el siglo XV
y los primeros años del siglo
XVI.

population
origins
of this place date back to the
ancient Mexico, to the classic
periods (yeas 100 to 800 CE)
and post classical (year 800
to 1521), from these cultural
horizons date the pre-hispanic
settlements of Imiquia or
Inimiquia, Las Palmas, El
Terremote, Totola, El Mogote
and San Martin Tzintongo
whose remains are scattered
throughout of the former
Tlaxomulco islet, today Loma
Tultepec.
These sites were inhabited
by settlers descendants of
Teotihuacan, Toltec, Otomi,
Chichimeca and Mexicas
ancestors, who belonged and
paid tribute to the lordship
of Xaltocan, when he lost
the hegemonic power of the

through its history, the human
settlements have taken up
different sites to the current
ones, due to during the XVI and
XVII centuries were removed
from their original site. However,
there is a variable that stays
at municipal seat and it’s
organized by neighborhoods:

del siglo XIX
la difusión de las ideas de
independencia en nuestro
país, gestó el movimiento
emancipador iniciado en 1810,
durante el cual los diputados
americanos reunidos en
1812 en las Cortes con sede
en la ciudad española de
Cádiz, elaboraron importantes
preceptos constitucionales en
la organización política de
los pueblos de América, uno
de ellos fue, la disposición
de constituir Ayuntamientos,
en las poblaciones que
tuvieran más de mil almas,
fue así como el 13 de enero
de 1821, la Diputación
Provincial de la Nueva España
autorizó el establecimiento de
Ayuntamiento en Tultepec,
teniendo bajo su jurisdicción
a las localidades de San
Miguel Tlaxomulco, San
Francisco Tenopalco, Santa
María la Visitación y Santiago
Teyahualco, mismas que se
fueron segregando durante
los siglos XIX y XX, excepto
esta última localidad.

beginning of
the XIX
century the diffusion of
independence ideas in our
country created the free
movement that began in
1810, during which American
congressmen met in 1812 at
the courts with headquarters
in the Spanish city of
Cadiz, elaborated important
constitutional order in the
political organization of
American people. One of
them was the intention to
constitute the City Council
in the towns which had
more than a thousand of
souls, in January 13th, 1821
the Provincial Council of
New Spain authorized the
establishment of the city
council in Tultepec, having
under its jurisdiction the towns
of San Miguel Tlaxomulco,
San Francisco Tenopalco,
Santa María la Visitación and
Santiago Teyahualco, they
were separated during XIX
and XX centuries, with the
exception of this last place.

 La pirotecnia
es una actividad que se ha
desarrollado en Tultepec a partir
de la segunda mitad del siglo
XIX, logrando consolidarse como
un elemento de la identidad
municipal.
La creatividad y el talento de los
diestros artesanos pirotécnicos
gozan de gran reconocimiento
a nivel nacional y más allá de
nuestras fronteras.
El gremio pirotécnico rinde culto
a San Juan Dios al que considera
su intercesor y su festividad tiene
lugar el 8 de marzo, espacio
temporal en el que además se
realiza la Feria Nacional de la
Pirotecnia, cuya primera edición
tuvo lugar en el año de 1989.
Hoy día es una festividad
internacional.

años,
el municipio de Tultepec ha
experimentado una serie de
transformaciones profundas
debido, tanto al crecimiento
natural de la población, que
sumado al constante flujo
migratorio de habitantes
procedentes de diversas
entidades del país, dan cauce a
una nueva dinámica social.
A mediados del siglo XIX
la población de la cabecera
municipal y los pueblos
sujetos a ella, ascendía a 4 645
habitantes, se estima que la
población actual es de 150 000
habitantes aproximadamente,
que residen en los 6 barrios
de la cabecera municipal, las 6
delegaciones, las 30 colonias,
los 13 fraccionamientos, los 8
ranchos, los 4 ejidos y parajes que
conforman el territorio municipal.

years,
Tultepec has undergone a series
of profound transformations
due to the natural growth of
the population, which, added
to the constant migratory flow
of inhabitants from different
places of the country, has
caused a new social dynamic.
In the middle of the XIX century,
the population of the municipal
seat and the towns attached
to it, increased to 4, 645
inhabitants, it is estimated that
the current population is about
