DESCRIBING MY NEIGHBORHOOD

Recuerden que deben escribir una composición describiendo el barrio / sector en el que
viven. Les envío el vocabulario para que escojan lo que van a necesitar, dependiendo de lo
que quieran decir.

1. PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE:

Preposiciones de lugar son palabras para describir donde está algo o alguien.

on - encima de
under - debajo de
in - en
inside - adentro
outside - afuera
in front of - en frente de
behind – atrás / detrás de
next to - al lado
near = cerca de / próximo a
between - entre ( únicamente entre dos cosas, situaciones, personas, etc.)
among - entre ( entre muchos o entre más de dos cosas, situaciones, personas, etc)
across from - del otro lado (también se dice "opposite")
opposite - del otro lado
around - alrededor
on the right - a la derecha
on the left - a la izquierda

Adjectives:

LOS ADJETIVOS NUNCA SE PLURALIZAN – LA MISMA FORMA SIRVE PARA SINGULAR Y


PLURAL. LOS ADJETIVOS TAMPOCO TIENEN GÉNERO; LA MISMA FORMA SIRVE PARA
MASCULINO Y FEMENINO.

Las expresiones there is y there are se utilizan en inglés para indicar que un objeto o una
persona se encuentran en un sitio especificado.

La forma negativa de estas expresiones - there is / there are - se construye con la partícula
negativa not:

Noten que para decir que no hay ningún o ninguna se utiliza el cuantificador any.

La forma interrogativa se construye mediante una inversión entre el verbo to be y there que se toma
como el sujeto:

shop, restaurant, cafeteria, discotec, fast-food restaurant, bars, taverns, bus -stations, metro
stations, museum, library...etc....

I LOVE THE PLACE WHERE I LIVE

I live in Medellín. Medellín is known as “The City of the Eternal Spring”, because there, people
celebrate, in August, La Feria de las Flores – The Flowers Fair. Many tourist from Colombia
and from other countries visit Medellín because ………. (Continuen haciendo una

I live at Robledo neighborhood. Robledo is a big and very commercial place. There are some
Chinese restaurants on the avenues. There are stores, supermarkets in the center of the
neighborhood. In Robledo, people find one of the most important hospital of the countries;
Pablo Tobon Uribe hospital. In front of the hospital, there are two big cafeterias and a
drugstore. There is a taxis station, next to the drugstore. Two blocks up to the hospital, is the
Cardiovascular Clinic. The Tecnologico de Antioquia Institute is in front of the Clinic. Next to
the Tecnologico de Antioquia institute is The Residential Unit Altamira.

I live at Altamira. This is the biggest residential unit in Medellín. In Altamira there are many
parks for the children. People go to the park with their children, with their friends and with the
dogs and they play, talk, eat ice cream and share a good time. There is a drugstore in front
of the ice cream parlor. There is a small and beautiful church next to the supermarket. The
flowers shop is among the pets shop, the drugstores and the butcher. There is a beauty
parlor in the corner of the park……

My apartment is in the Block 79, on the first floor. This apartment is small but it is very
agreeable and very beautiful. It has three bedrooms, one bathroom, one small kitchen, a
dining room and a living room. There is not a yard, but there is a small balcony. In the
balcony there are beautiful plants and red, pink and yellow flowers. My room is in front of the
principal room. The dining room is near the kitchen. The living room is between the dining room

My room is small, but it is very comfortable and well illuminated. My bed is brown. The walls
of my bedroom are white. There are two pictures on the wall. There is a big window and a
beautiful beige curtain on the window. There are two red and soft cushions on the bed. The

two closets. One is on the left. In this closet, I have my books, some magazines and my personal
cleaning items; I have shampoo, body cream, lotions, and many other things. The other closet
is on the right of the room. My clothes and my shoes are in this closet. There are some boxes
with documents under the bed. There are some posters and my bags, behind the door. There
is a table in front of the bed. There is a computer and some books on the table. The pens and
pencils are among the books and the notebooks. Next to the table there is a shelf. The TV is

I live in Envigado. Envigado is a municipality of the valle de Aburra her personality is vigorosa,
because se fundo solo y se bautizo solo. In envigado se respira cultura, música, cultura y arte
en especiality en la feria del carriel
