Modifican el verbo que va detrs, expresando capacidad, obligacin, prohibicin, consejo, posibilidad, permiso, etc. Siempre van seguidos de un verbo en infinitivo sin to Slo tienen forma de presente (excepto can could y have to had to). Para referirse al pasado pueden ir seguidos de have+participio (You should have visited the doctor Deberas haber ido al mdico) No cambia la forma en la 3 persona del singular, excepto have to has to INTERROGATIVAS: se coloca el verbo modal delante del sujeto. NEGATIVAS: Se coloca not o nt detrs del verbo modal. Los verbos modales no llevan `s' en la 3 persona del singular.
