Historia
A sus 182 años, Villavicencio es una ciudad alucinante, activa, dinámica, con la
capacidad enorme de sorprender.

Basta con caminar o montar en una bicicleta en su centro y de inmediato

redescubrimos su historia, la que narran sus esquinas, la influencia de los
religiosos en su arquitectura y el proceso de evangelización iniciado en 1967.

El frenesí de las personas que caminan sus calles, nos recuerdan a los indígenas
“Guayupe” que antes de la llegada de los conquistadores españoles, ya tenían un
avanzado acuerdo comercial con los Muiscas , labraron los primeros senderos de
intercambio que perdura hasta nuestros días, aquí se sigue encontrando un lugar
propicio para los negocios.

El 21 de octubre de 1850 paso de llamarse Gramalote a Villavicencio, esta es la

frontera agrícola, una puerta de sabores, olores y colores que nos permite entrar
a las experiencias maravillosas de una tierra productiva, que crece y se fortalece
con cada migrante, una cultura viva y vibrante, que lleva su comida de supervi-
vencia a los manteles gourmet.

Es la relación eterna de la cordillera con los llanos orientales la que ubica a la

población en un lugar privilegiado, la transición, el piedemonte con una ventana

El Bioparque Los Ocarros es un escenario natural ubicado a
tres kilómetros de la ciudad por la ruta del Piedemonte Llanero,
allí los visitantes tendrán contacto directo con la fauna y la
flora de la Orinoquía colombiana.
Tiene una extensión de 5.7 hectáreas y su nombre es un home-
naje al Ocarro o armadillo gigante que habita en los llanos
orientales y se encuentra en vía de extinción. El Bioparque Los
Ocarros es el único centro especializado en conservación de
especies en vía de extinción de la Orinoquía. Además, cuenta
con el segundo acuario de agua dulce más grande en especies
de Colombia.
