Robert Louis Stevenson lived during the industrial revolution, a period of economic,
social and technological transformation that began in Great Britain at the end of the 18th
century and later expanded to other parts of the world during the 19th century. In it,
society was transformed and technology advanced considerably, also aiding in the
development of new methods of production and work organization.
This change can be seen in the work "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde",
with the experimentation and risks taken by the protagonist or the social contrast that
exists in the work.
In addition, this stage made many people leave the countryside to live in the city, which
is also reflected in his works, giving a different approach to the Victorian era, in which
tradition and progress were at odds.
He also lived in the highest peak of the British Empire, a period of expansion that
influenced the mentality of the society of Great Britain and is reflected in his adventure
stories, in which the protagonists explore new lands and face the nostalgia of what was
left behind.

The narrator in this work corresponds to the external observer, since he does not
participate directly in the story and does not reveal information beyond what the
characters perceive or know directly.
Among the most relevant characters are the protagonists, who are Dr. Henry Jekyll and
Mr. Edward Hyde. On the one hand, we meet Dr. Jekyll, an arrogant, lying, ambitious,
friendly and intelligent character, among other things, who based his time on
researching in his laboratory and sought to separate good and evil from him with one of
his experiments. On the other hand, we meet Mr. Hyde, a rude, grumpy and mysterious
person, the malevolent counterpart of Jekyll, lacking morality and control.
In addition to this, we meet two more secondary characters, Gabriel John Utterson, a
lawyer and friend of Jekyll, the main narrator of the story, and Dr. Hastie Lanyon,
another friend of Dr. Jekyll.
