a) Definición:
Son ecuaciones diferenciales donde existen 2 o más variables independientes.

b) Aplicaciones
Las ecuaciones diferenciales en derivadas parciales se caracterizan por tener dos o más
variables independientes y se pueden utilizar para modelos de sistemas
multidimensionales.
Se pueden usar para describir una amplia variedad de fenómenos tal como el sonido, el
calor, la electroestática, la electrodinámica, la dinámica de fluidos, la elasticidad, o la
mecánica cuántica que se pueden formalizar en términos de ecuaciones diferenciales en
derivadas parciales.

No interviene el tiempo. Se puede usar en mecánica de fluidos, potenciales eléctricos o
distribución de temperatura en placas.
c) Representación
La familia de curvas para las ecuaciones diferenciales en parciales se expresa de dos
formas. Si consideramos que 𝒙, 𝒚 son las variables independientes y 𝒛 la variable
dependiente, se tiene:

Las ecuaciones diferenciales en derivadas parciales se pueden obtener por eliminación de
constantes o funciones arbitrarias.

Tipos de ecuaciones
Orden: Está definido por la mayor de las derivadas en la ecuación.
Grado: Es el exponente de la derivada de mayor orden.
Lineal: Si no aparecen productos entre la incógnita y sus derivadas o entre ellas mismas.
No Lineal: Aparecen productos entre la incógnita y sus derivadas o entre ellas mismas.
