Introducción a la lista de vocabulario KET
La Lista de Vocabulario KET ofrece a los profesores una guía del vocabulario necesario
para preparar a los estudiantes para los exámenes KET y KET for Schools.

Antecedentes de la lista
La lista de vocabulario KET fue originalmente desarrollada por Cambridge ESOL en
consulta con consultores externos para guiar a los escritores de artículos que producen
materiales para el examen KET. Se basó en el vocabulario de la especificación Waystage
del Consejo de Europa (1990) y otro vocabulario que la evidencia de corpus muestra es
de alta frecuencia.

La lista cubre el vocabulario apropiado para el nivel A2 en el Marco Común Europeo de


Referencia (MCR) e incluye vocabulario receptivo (palabras que el candidato debe
entender pero que no es el foco de una pregunta) y vocabulario productivo (palabras que
el candidato necesita saber para responder a una pregunta).

La lista no proporciona una lista exhaustiva de todas las palabras que aparecen en el KET
y KET para las Escuelas documentos de preguntas y los candidatos no deben limitar su
estudio de vocabulario a la lista.

Cómo se actualiza la lista


El vocabulario del inglés cambia con el tiempo, con palabras que se añaden y otras
palabras que caen en desuso. Con el fin de mantener su moneda, la lista de vocabulario
de KET se actualiza anualmente, con la decisión de añadir o eliminar palabras se informa
por referencia al Cambridge Learner Corpus y English Vocabulary Profile.

El Cambridge Learner Corpus es una colección de más de 44 millones de palabras de


inglés, basada en la evidencia del uso del idioma por los estudiantes de todo el mundo y a
partir del cual se ha desarrollado el Perfil del Vocabulario Inglés. El Perfil del Vocabulario
Inglés muestra las palabras y frases más comunes que los estudiantes de inglés
necesitan saber en inglés británico o americano. El significado de cada palabra o
frase en los wordlists se ha asignado un nivel entre A1 y B2 en el CEFR.

Organización de la lista
• Conjuntos de palabras
Algunas categorías de palabras que un alumno de este nivel puede esperar conocer, p.ej.
días de la semana, no se incluyen en la lista alfabética, pero se enumeran en el apéndice
1. Aunque las palabras gramaticales’ (pronombres, verbos modales, etc.) se incluyen, la
sección de Especificaciones de Idiomas de los manuales KET y KET para Escuelas
(disponible en www.cambridgeesol.org) debe ser consultado para una lista más completa.

• Ejemplificación
Las frases de ejemplo y las oraciones que muestran cómo se podrían usar las palabras se
dan sólo cuando las palabras con diferentes significados necesitan ser constreñidas. Por
ejemplo, el banco es seguido por "cambié mi dinero en un banco" esto demuestra que el
banco se limita a la idea de una institución financiera: no se espera que los candidatos
conozcan otros significados, como "un banco de río".

• Verbos de varias palabras
Todos los verbos multi-palabra (o frasal) que un candidato KET o KET para las escuelas
podría ser esperado que sepan se incluyen en la lista. Estos verbos incluyen verbos
literales’ (i.e. donde el significado es transparente), p.ej. sentarse, salir y verbos no
literales’ , p.ej. cuidar, levantarse.

• Listas de temas
En el apéndice 2, las palabras se han agrupado bajo temas comunes de KET y/o KET
para las escuelas, como "Alimentos y bebidas", "Casa y hogar" y "Deporte".

Temas que no son adecuados


Los exámenes ESOL de Cambridge no deben contener nada que pueda ofender o
molestar a los candidatos, afectar potencialmente su rendimiento o distraerlos durante el
examen. Varios temas sensibles se consideran inadecuados para su uso en KET y KET
para las escuelas, por ejemplo la guerra y la política, y el vocabulario relacionado con ellos
no se incluye en la lista de vocabulario de KET.

Vocabulario personal
El contenido de la lista de vocabulario de KET es de carácter general y es poco probable
que cubra completamente el vocabulario productivo que pueden requerir los candidatos.
Los candidatos deben conocer el léxico específico que necesitarán para describirse a sí
mismos y sus vidas, por ejemplo aficiones, gustos y disgustos.
