Los multiplicadores son capaces de aumentar la corriente por un factor de 1,000,000 pero el rango
de trabajo típico es de 100,000.
El tamaño de la señal (y ruido) es función del voltaje del EM, cuanto mayor es el voltaje mayor
es la señal.
El EM tiene un tiempo de vida finito. Este tiempo de vida es función de la corriente de salida,
cuanto mayor es ésta, menor es el tiempo de vida del EM.

Forma iones a partir del “gas reactivo” por bombardeo con electrones.
Los iones del gas reactivo sufren reacciones con moléculas de la muestra produciéndose
iones de la misma.
La ionización química (CI) es mucho más suave que la ionización por impacto
molécula de muestra.
Otros gases reactivos (isobutano, amoniaco) son más selectivos y producen incluso menos
fragmentación.
Presión de la fuente ~ 0.2 Torr.
Los límites de detección son generalmente elevados debido al fondo del gas reactivo
(metano).
Es el método más frecuentemente utilizado para determinar pesos moleculares de
compuestos.
Con metano se forma: M+1, M+29; M+41. Muy útil para asegurar M.
