MUST HAVE
“Must have” se usa para expresar una conclusión lógica sobre algo
que ocurrió en el pasado. No estamos seguros de lo que sucedió
exactamente, pero basándonos en las pruebas, podemos llegar a
alguna conclusión.
Examples- must have
The lights are off, they must have gone to bed already.
Las luces están apagadas, deben haberse ido a la cama ya.
There are rests of the vase on the floor, he must have broken it.
Hay restos del jarrón en el suelo, debe haberlo roto.
He might have given you his number if you had asked him, now it’s too late.
Podría haberte dado su número si le hubieses preguntado, ya es demasiado
tarde.
Examples- can't have /couldn't have
Saying goodbye to the love of your life couldn’t have been easy.
Decirle adiós al amor de tu vida no debe haber sido fácil.
They had a lot of work to do, they can’t have finished already.
Tenían mucho trabajo que hacer, no pueden haber terminado ya.
Examples
You should have studied more.
Deberías haber estudiado más.
Your friend should have told you that she was not coming.
Tu amiga debería haberte dicho que no iba a venir.
I ought to have prepared more food, but I didn’t know you were coming.
Debería haber preparado más comida, pero no sabía que venías.
SHOULDN’T HAVE
Se utiliza para indicar que algo ocurrió en el pasado que no debería
haber ocurrido.
Examples:
You shouldn’t have come.
No deberías haber venido.
Examples:
I would have bought wine If I had known there wasn’t any!
¡Habría comprado vino si hubiese sabido que no había!
I would have gone to the party, but I couldn’t because I was really busy
Habría ido a la fiesta, pero no pude porque estaba muy ocupado.
