REPORTED QUESTIONS
Cuando pasamos una pregunta a estilo
indirecto debemos cambiar el orden de las
palabras para que vuelva a ser una frase
afirmativa
1.Si hay inversión sujeto-verbo debemos
deshacerla (YES-NO QUESTIONS)
“Are you sad today?” Helen asked Julia
Helen asked Julia IF SHE WAS SAD THAT DAY
“Have you been to London yet?” the teacher
wanted to know
The teacher wanted to know IF you HAD BEEN
to London yet
2.Si no hay inversión, tenemos preguntas
que comienzan con WH-. En este caso
usamos el pronombre interrogativo WH-
como nexo de unión y eliminamos verbos
auxiliares como DO, DOES, DID
“Where did you go yesterday?” Alicia’s mum
asked Alicia
Alicia’s mum asked Alicia WHERE SHE HAD
BEEN THE DAY BEFORE
“How many children do you teach every year?”
the woman wanted to know
The woman wanted to know HOW MANY
CHILDREN SHE TAUGHT every year
“Why have you been crying?” the boy asked his
girlfriend
They boy asked his girlfriend WHY SHE HAD
BEEN CRYING
REPORTED COMMANDS
Cuando queremos transformar a estilo
indirecto una “orden, petición o advertencia”
usamos una estructura totalmente diferente a
las oraciones afirmativas/negativas y a las
preguntas.
Los verbos introductorios que usamos son:
TELL: para órdenes
ORDER: para órdenes
ASK: para peticiones
BEG: para peticiones
WARN: para advertencias
For example:
“Open the window, please!”, the teacher told
the girl
The teacher told the girl TO OPEN the window
“Don’t talk in class!”, the teacher shouted
The teacher shouted NOT TO TALK IN CLASS
Cuando la orden o petición es afirmativa
utilizamos un infinitivo con TO para
transformar la frase a estilo indirecto
Cuando la orden o petición es negativa
utilizamos un infinitivo con NOT TO para
transformarla
SUGGESTIONS
Como verbo introductorio podemos utilizar
SUGGEST, RECOMMEND, ADVISE, INVITE que
van seguidos de un complemento indirecto +
infinitivo con TO.
“You should stop eating so much junk food!”
He advised me to stop eating so much jf.
El verbo RECOMMEND y el verbo SUGGEST
pueden pasarse a estilo indirecto de 2 formas
diferentes:
“You should have extra Maths lessons”
He suggested having extra Maths lessons
He recommended that I have extra Maths
lessons
