Mercado regulado
inversionistas
Regulated market
Regulated Market Regulations can be directed at price, marketing, and production. Any point
covered by regulation will be an incidence in the evolution of market forces. Precisely because
of this, it is called a regulated market. However, such regulation is seen as necessary when
there are structural failures in a certain product market.
Therefore, those necessary control regulations by the state, through any agency, will be
justified if these regulations are aimed at bringing any anomalous market closer to a
competitive market."
There are economic activities that are considered fundamental or key in each country's
economy. The markets for such economic activities may be operating in non-competitive
situations. In such a situation of market failure, government action is demanded. Examples of
this can include:
• Electricity.
• Telecommunications.
• Drinking water.
• Gas.
• Healthcare.
In the economy, situations may arise that affect the normal course of the market mechanism.
For example, the existence of monopolies and structural failures in market formation. In such
situations, government regulation of markets is justified.
Timely state intervention in such situations will tend to benefit consumers. Regulation imposed
by the government will provide several benefits to consumers. For example, when the state
needs to enact laws, rules, and norms in telecommunications or energy companies, consumers
can have benefits such as:
Therefore, when the market is regulated, negative factors or elements can outweigh the
benefits of a regulated market. Let's consider the following aspects as disadvantages:
• With the existence of some type of regulation measures, the market mechanism does not
function freely.
• With regulated markets, there is a risk or situation in which the price established by the
regulatory agent may not reflect the real price of the product affecting its production,
distribution, and consumption.
• Price regulation that does not reflect reality generates uneven distribution of goods.
• The regulation of a certain sector of the economy can discourage investors.
