Paulo Freire: La pedagogía del oprimido

1- La concepción “bancaria” de la educación como instrumento de opresión.

2- La concepción problematizadora de la educación y la liberación. Sus supuestos.
3- La contradicción educador- educando: nadie educa a nadie, nadie se educa a si mismo,
los hombres se educan entre sí con la mediación del mundo.

1- Freire la llama “bancaria” porque se trata a los educandos como vasijas vacías que
tienen que ser llenadas mediante depósitos de información. Los opresores son
malvados que han encontrado la forma de implantar estas ideas de la mente de las
personas por medio de la Educación. Cuando las personas son jóvenes, las
consciencias están formación y ahí es el mejor momento para infundirles las ideas para
que aquellos se acostumbren a ser Oprimidos.
2- Para los opresores, el ser humano son solo ellos. Los otros son “objetos, cosas”. Para
ellos, solo existe un derecho, su derecho a vivir en paz, frente al derecho a sobrevivir
que tal vez ni siquiera reconocen, sino solamente admiten a los oprimidos. Tal es la
concepción “bancaria” de la educación que el único margen de acción que se ofrece a
los educandos es el de recibir los depósitos, guardarlos y archivarlos. Decirse
comprometido con la liberación y no ser capaz de comulgar con el pueblo, a quien
continua considerando absolutamente ignorante, es un doloroso equivoco. Nadie
tiene la libertad para ser libre, sino que al no ser libre lucha para conseguir su libertad.
La educación como práctica de la libertad, al contrario de aquella que es práctica de la
dominación, implica la negación del hombre abstracto, aislado, suelto, desligado del
mundo, así como la negación del mundo como una realidad ausente de los hombres.
3- Freire explica que bajo esta concepción el rol del educador es aquel que es el único
que sabe, el que educa, es el que piensa, es quien habla y es el que dicta las reglas. Por
el contrario, el rol del educando es aquel que no sabe nada, que son educados, que
tienen que memorizar y repetir exactamente lo que los profesores dicen. Además,
tienen que aprender a guardar silencio, escuchar las reglas y ajustarse a las reglas a
pesar de que no les guste. Sin embargo es por eso que se dice que en la educación los
educando sean dominados para que cuando salgan al mundo continúen con esa misma
conducta de oprimidos.

Freire calls it "banking" because students are treated as empty vessels that have to be filled
through information deposits. The oppressors are evil who have found a way to implant these
ideas in people's minds through Education. When people are young, their consciences are
forming and that is the best time to infuse them with ideas so that they get used to being
oppressed.

For the oppressors, the human being is only them. The others are “objects, things”. For them,
there is only one right, their right to live in peace, compared to the right to survive that
perhaps they do not even recognize, but only admit the oppressed. Such is the "banking"
conception of education that the only margin of action offered to students is to receive
deposits, save and file them. Claiming to be committed to liberation and not being able to
commune with the people, whom he continues to consider absolutely ignorant, is a painful
mistake. No one has the freedom to be free, but by not being free they fight to achieve their
freedom. Education as a practice of freedom, contrary to that which is a practice of
domination, implies the negation of the abstract, isolated, loose man, detached from the
world, as well as the denial of the world as a reality absent from men.

Freire explains that there is an educator- educating contradiction. He divided the society in
oppressed and oppressors. Under this conception the role of the educator is the one who is
the only one who knows, the one who educates, who thinks, who speaks and is the one who
dictates the rules. On the contrary, the role of the student is one who knows nothing, who is
educated, who has to memorize and repeat exactly what the teachers say. Also, they have to
learn to be silent, listen to the rules, and stick to the rules even though they don't like it.
However, that is why it is said that in education the learners are dominated so that when they
go out into the world they continue with that same oppressed behavior.
