Sistema Transmedics
Opinión Personal
Organ transplantation is a risky surgery, which gives a direct impact to both the patient
and the health personnel who perform the procedure being negative and / or positive.
A 64-year-old patient by the name of Roy Dwight, with a pathology of severe
Cardiomyopathy, who had undergone previous heart surgeries inserting an artificial
pump 4 years ago, was observed in the National Geographic Video.
By inserting the artificial pump the human body creates antibodies, these antibodies can
cause rejection of the new organ.
The patient Roy's family are waiting for the procedure, which generates uncertainty, but
at the same time hope to continue with a full family life.
At St. Vicent Hospital they implemented the Transmedics System, making them
pioneers of this organ care system, where the heart is resuscitated regardless of
whether the donor was badly injured or dead, using the donor's own blood to circulate
the blood through the machine, oxygenating it and passing through the donated heart,
avoiding damage to the organ at the time of transplantation.
Being the fourth time that the patient visits the operating room, he hopes to continue
living, he wanted to travel and swim since with the artificial pump he has not been able
to carry out these activities; The wife longed to see him happy and promptly recovered.
The person responsible for evaluating the compatibility of the donor with the patient and
the transport of the Organ Care System is the Registrar.
Personal Opinion
Thanks to this technology, highly complex surgical procedures can be performed,
preserving the life of the patient, providing a better quality of life, avoiding sequelae or
collateral damage to the patient and more positive expectations for the continuity of his
life.
To highlight, organ donation is a noble and brave gesture, where you can give life after
death and save one or more lives.
It is important to know that, thanks to the needs, great inventions have been made, and
the need to preserve the heart of a donor, led them to create a device where the heart
pumps blood simulating circulation while it is transported until reaching your receiver to
keep it in the best conditions.
