For four months a year the northern Baltic Sea is frozen

making ice breakers indispensable in the region

but now these ultra reinforced ships are becoming important for another reason:

tourism.

In Lapland they are now one of the most popular tourist attractions.

You don't feel the sensations... you just hear the noise of the ice breaking

and it's thick ice.

It's very different from a normal boat.

It's nice to see what we normally experience.

This ice breaker can take 50 people a day for a 3-hour trip on the frozen seas.

It's like a knife that cuts through the very strong ice.

Here is the pitch manoeuvre here, you actually adjust the plates on our two propellers.

It's the angle here - and the more angle, the faster it will go forward.

For the more hardy of tourists, you can even venture into the water for a swim.

But with temperatures outside hitting as low as minus 20,

it's not advised to bring your own swimwear.

These survival suits can maintain your body temperature for several hours.

Like a whale!

If you want to try out your sea legs, or have a different kind of paddle in the sea,

it comes at a cost: 255 euros.

Despite this, Lapland is quickly becoming the new winter holiday hot spot.
