El DMS liberado por algas marinas causa cambio en océanos, este se oxida a sulfato
regresando al océano mediante la lluvia, en la tierra existe una menor cantidad de
sulfato que predomina en las fuentes antropogénicas de S, contribuyendo a la formación
de aerosoles presentes como sulfato, también se utiliza para la producción de yeso.

En la Figura 1 se observa el ciclo biogeoquímico global del azufre.
