El viento trae notas de un canto
con la música tomada del cielo
para todos los que ya se fueron:
Unos, sin volver, al cementerio otros,
rumbo a la estrella boreal buscando,
al gusto, patrias mejores;
Es un canto para la otra historia:
no hace eco de epopeyas antiguas
ni fanfarrias de las batallas gloriosas;
No hace elogio de héroes guerreros
a quienes la historia ya les da honor,
portando sus estandartes de muerte;
No hace del estruendo de guerra, un
himno ni de espadas y cañones,
coronas de honor, ni temas de su
historia: impiedad y ambición;

El canto es una loa, una alabanza
triunfal a las virtudes innatas de la
razón humana, a los actos sublimes
de su recia grandeza;
Honra a quienes entregaron su
inteligencia a la pacífica y laboriosa
tarea de la creación, para hacer de un
infierno un símil del paraíso;
A aquellos que extinguieron sus
esperanzas de volver a la tierra de sus
bellas querencias, donde quedaron las
razones de sus tristezas;
A aquellos que dejaron su suelo y sus
amores
buscando otra patria con cielo de otros
colores,
Chant
The wind brings notes of a song
with the music taken from heaven
for everyone who already left:
Some, without returning, others to the
cemetery, in the heading to the
northern star seeking, at will, better
homelands
It’s a chant for the another history
It doesn’t echo ancient epics
nor fanfares of the glorious battles
It doesn’t praise heroic warriors
to whom the history gives them
already honor, carrying their death
standards
It doesn’t make of the din of war, an
anthem nor of swords and cannons,
wreaths of honor, nor themes of its
history: impiety and ambition;
The chant is a load, a triumphal
worship to the inborn virtues of human
reason, to the sublime acts of their
sturdy greatness;
It honors those who surrender their
intelligence to the pacific and laborious
work of the creation, to make of a hell
a simile of the paradise;
To those who extinguished their hopes
to return to the land of their beautiful
fondness, where the reasons of their
sorrows remained;
To those who left their land and loved
ones
looking for another homeland with a
sky of other hues,
en una dejaron raíces, en otra hallaron
los frutos;
A quienes la historia negó el mérito de
recibir el más valioso premio a cambio
de sus vidas: un grato recuerdo por
sus dones extinguidos;

Tiene armonía suave como de tersos
aires, suena con los ecos de las altas
montañas y baja como fresca brisa de
las mañanas;
Se engarzan los tonos de los bellos
cantos de las alegres canoras que
adornan el cielo, y se suman al coro
los arrullos silvestres;
Quienes se van con los sueños que
tejen con hilos del alma que la atan a
su suelo, los convierten en sus
renovadas tristezas;
Y los acompañan las dulces voces
antiguas de las canciones para los
grandes amores, que ahora se les
entona para su despedida;
Algunos se fueron sin sufrir dolor ni
pena, al dejar sus tierras y sus
estériles afanes por los agravios a sus
cuerpos y sus almas;
Si de aquellos nunca volvieron sus
despojos, éstas en su sabiduría
llevaron la conciencia que la tierra
nunca fue causa, sólo destino:

La música desciende para amenizar el
día como la luz de los amaneceres de
colores, esparciendo los tonos de
esmeralda y flores;
in one they left roots, in another they
found the fruits;
To whom the history denied the merit
of receiving the most valuable prize in
exchange of their lives: a pleasant
memory for their extinct gifts;
It has soft harmony as the smooth airs,
it sounds with the echoes of the high
mountains and goes down like cool
breeze of the morning;
The tones of the lovely songs of the
joyful chants that adorn the sky are
linked, and are joined to the chorus the
wild lullabies;
Those who leave with the dreams that
knit with threads of the soul that bind it
to its soil, transform them in their
renewed griefs;
And the sweet ancient voices of the
songs accompany them for greats
loves, which are now intoned to them
for their farewell;
Some left without suffer pain nor
hardship, leaving their lands and their
barren eagerness for grievances to
their bodies and souls;
If of those never returned their spoils,
these in their wisdom carried the
conscience that the ground never was
cause, just fate:
Music descends to enliven the day as
the light of chromatic sunrises,
scattering shades emerald and
flowers;

Así se compone el triste canto de la
despedida, como mágico lazo entre
almas viejas que se van y las almas
nuevas que se quedan esperando;
Está escrito con letras antiguas y
nuevas de luz y colores que suenan
con voces y trinos, impregnadas de
aromas de la tierra y sus frutos;
Sus estrofas cuentan, de risas y de
llantos del pastoral sosiego y de los
susidios ocultos, de las ternuras
latentes y de las vanas congojas;
Y si lo cantara un coro de miles de
voces aunque fuera sólo una vez y en
silencio, que se quedara en el aire
como invocación;
Music is the color of blue skies and is
impregnated with the reddish of the
sunset, in the prelude of the last
concerto of the night;
It starts with the gentle tinkling of small
bells from all the twinkling stars on the
scenery, and descends from the dome
with faint chords;
And it glides vibrantly between the
chiaroscuros with smoothness of the
captivating moonlight and ondulation
of fresh dark airs;
The night is an endless scene of the
farewell
with a rug of the motionless and
expectant foliage
and futile curtains of a translucent
firmament;
This is how the melancholic song of
the farewell is composed, like a
magical bond between old souls that
leave and the new souls that stay
waiting;
It is written with antique letters and
new of flare and color that sound with
voices and trills, impregnated of the
scents of the ground and their fruits;
Their stanzas tell, of laughs and tears
of the pastoral calm and of the hidden
uneasiness, of the latent tenderness
and the vain distresses;
And if a choir of thousands of voices
sing it even if it was only once and in
stillness, that will remain in the air as
an invocation;
